Plenty of birds at our feeders! Had a pair of bald eagles a couple of hundred yards from the house yesterday feeding on a groundhog even.

Well, FWIW, the birds are going through everything we put out. We get woodpeckers, flickers, nuthatches, chickadees, house wrens, cardinals, blue jays, doves, juncos, titmouse, crested sparrow, house finches, golden finches, others I'm sure I've forgotten. We we moved here 20 some years ago, I remember remarking that it was weird not hearing birds singing. Not that way any more.

The only thing I don't see any more are the pileated woodpeckers. Such a majestic bird too. We used to have a Staghorn Sumac in the back and we once had three of them going after the seed pods at the same time. The tree died during the bad drought we had and haven't seen them since. We're in the Lake Linganore area, near Frederick.

BTW, although we don't get them visiting the feeders, during the warmer months we hear these guys back in the woods. I think it's one of the most beautiful of bird songs. Have a listen by scrolling down to where it lists their songs on the right margin.

Chased this crow-sized pileated woodpecker all over Soldiers Delight on New Years Day trying to get a pic.

I have a greenhouse and it takes a toll on all kinds of birds.
Most are stun and recover but many die.
No cure for this bird flu.

Depending on how big your greenhouse is but there's always decals and window hangars.

We have plenty here in Catonsville, including some of the city pigeons that in turn attracted a Cooper's Hawk who has been feasting on pigeons! The great circle of life!

At Anne Arundel Fish and Game, in the spring Pilated Woodpeckers beat on dead trees and are louder than some guns! We only have one around my woods and he even tries eating suet but he is too big for the feeder.

I only have black sunflower seeds out in platform feeders. Plenty of visitors: cardinals, juncos, the sparrows... squirrels. Five, fat, happy squirrels.

Looking for a new feeder to accommodate the birds better and more specifically.

What seeds are ya'll putting out?

I also went with all black sunflower. Seems to be less waste and all the birds like it. What gets dropped, the doves clean up. I also keep a suet cake out.

Squirrels, for some reason, don't seem to like Safflower. So, we put out a 50/50 of Black Oil Sunflower and Safflower (or sometimes in separate feeders), a fruit/nut blend for Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, etc., and suet.

IF we feed in summer (not usually a good deal if natural foods are readily available), we'll include a separate feeder with niger (nyjer) seed for the various finches and wrens.

I love having Carolina Wrens around. They actually clean the house from ground to the roof of bugs of all types. I love watching them flit around the windows getting the flying insects that seem to hang around them.

This year I am going to make some wren homes to attract more to the area.

Be very careful with the hole size and positioning of the box (OOC inbound, I know...), or you could end up with House (English) Sparrows instead.

I prefer to give a good environment, and the wrens have ways of finding their own secretive places to nest.

    YMMV, of course!!

Plenty of birds here in Potomac. I just feed the regular mix in the squirrel proof feeder and wife throws some on ground for the doves. Just started putting out suet cakes too. We have them all including the hawks and owls. Sometimes the hawk finds a limping squirrel. Funny how that happens....
