State Announces Bump Stock and Trigger Crank Buy Back Events for Delaware Residents

In June 2018 the Delaware General Assembly passed a law making the possession of a bump stock or trigger crank illegal. In addition, the law mandates that Delaware residents relinquish these destructive weapons to law enforcement. The legislation establishes a limited buyback program whereby Delaware residents are eligible to receive $100 for a bump stock and $15 for a trigger crank.

The buyback program is for Delaware residents only. The program is only intended for individuals and does not apply to wholesale, retail, manufacturers, and distributor business entities. Anonymous relinquishments will be permitted however no compensation will be provided. Compensation is not permitted for homemade bump stocks or trigger cranks.

Since you can bump fire with virtually any solid stock, sounds like an opportunity to make a quick few C's

    "Buyback"?

Ha! This concept has been discussed here before.

Delaware wasn't the original seller, and never owned them. It's not a "buyback," which is nothing more than clever terminology to disguise what's really going on here.

It's a forced sale, like government buying real estate: Eminent domain, which requires due process and a real valuation of the property.

Delaware's forced sale price being shoved down people's throats is ridiculous, because the property is irreplaceable. It's priceless, actually.

Presumably people in Delaware owned bumpstocks prior to the state making them illegal to own. Originally there was no compensation afforded to those that owned them other than the fact you were deemed an instant criminal. This is just an appeasement.

I know one of the Troopers from Troop 4 (Georgetown). Next time I see him I'll ask how many were turned in.

Results are in. They assumed possession of 30 bump stocks and 1 trigger crank across the entire state of Delaware, spending a total of $3150 of taxpayer money. :sad20:

I feel so much safer now.

State police purchased 31 bump stocks and one trigger crank at a pair of buyback events earlier this month, according to state officials.

The total cost to taxpayers: $3,115.

That haul doesn't count the 120 wooden devices that someone made at home with the express aim of cashing in on the buyback program. Police agreed to take the "crudely crafted" items but refused to pay out the $12,000 that the man who made them was seeking.

"The department was clear in its communications that it would not compensate residents for any homemade devices," said Kimberly Chandler, deputy secretary of the state Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
