I have a few questions about moving to md with an ar15:

I have owned my ar for 5 years is it grandfathered in?
It does not have collapsable buttstock does that matter?
It has permanently pinned flash hider
    are both uppers allowed? 556/300blk
magazines? i have many 20-30rd mags
any exemptions for active duty military?

I have owned my ar for 5 years is it grandfathered in? Yes.
It does not have collapsable buttstock does that matter? No.
It has permanently pinned flash hider So? That is a non-issue...
are both uppers allowed? 556/300blk Yes.
magazines? i have many 20-30rd mags Not a problem to own them, but you may not sell, trade, or transfer them within the state. If you want more, you will have to cross into a freer state to get them.
any exemptions for active duty military? Yes.

    Welcome, responses in red.

Welcome. You should be fine since you owned your rifle prior to October 1 is last year. You will need to register it with the Maryland state police. Your magazines are fine too.
