So... I am off today, and figured I would bite the bullet, and apply for my HQL. I focused on buying an AR (SigM400) and an AK (SAM7R) before the October 1 restrictions took place.

My question... I have read that because I have made these prior purchases, I do not need to take a class.

    Is this correct?

That is correct. You will select the application that is training exempt. One of the firms will then ask for one if those regulated firearm's information. Good luck

    Thanks for the quick response.

Second question. After I receive the license, and I go to purchase, do I go home with the purchase, or is there an additional wait?

    Hi Ed!
Nothing changed except they put another obstacle in there. Get fingerprinted and background checked for the HQL and get background checked again and wait when you buy.

    Thanks Bob...

    That seems counterintuitive.

This is rediculous. I can not hold out any longer. I am wanting to buy a HG now.

It will be in the 50s on Sunday. Let me know if you want to shoot. I am thinking Trap. Did you get your Stoger back yet.

Not yet, they said they were going to replace it this time, we will see. I think my wife has my schedule pretty full between now and Christmas anyway.

Just got my fingerprints taken. 63 dollars :(

Then went to Engage... Saw Andy, Nate and a nice lady.
Was given advice on getting a 9mm for first handgun then graduating to a .45

I Plan on getting getting the Sig. It felt right.

I am home now and just filled out the rest of the application. 50 Dollars:(

The really sad part is, I was told the fingerprinting company where I received services from is owned by a police officer with MSP.

Just so that everyone knows... This is complete and utter BS!

    Now we wait and see.

    I will keep everyone updated.

Yep, we are all with you on this; it is complete BS!

When all is said and done, I'm interested to know exactly how much it cost you (stamps and all), and approximately how much time did it take for you to read up on the process, complete it and how long you have to wait to get your HQL.

For anyone reading this and not familiar, after going through all these additional steps and money, and get the HQL; you then have to do everything exactly as you did before SB281 (FSA2013), that is: fill out another application, sign a bunch of forms to buy the gun under penalty of fines/jail if you lie, then pass a NICS background check, and a MDSP background check, AND wait another 7 days. Does this sound like an infringement to anyone but me?
