I was at the range today and a friend was shooting his cougar.
The pistol would only function in double action, not da/sa. The gun safety was off, fired normally, slide came back , next round fed and hammer fell without firing. Trigger was pulled in da again and the same thing over and over. The gun could be cocked and fired manually as well. The hammer went back and stayed cocked when the slide was worked manually. It made me uncomfortable. I dont own a Cougar or Beretta with similar hammer drop safety.

Any similar experience or help with this?

Checked for info on issues/problems and Stoeger's website.
    No hits for the problem.
    Stoeger description of product DA/SA:
    Standard Features
    Action: Double/single action

    Magazine: 2 high-capacity magazines — .45 ACP, 8-round; .40 S&W, 11-round; 9mm, 15-round

    Safety: Ambidextrous safety lever

(.45 ACP includes front Picatinny rail)

Any owners out there. Just trying to help a friend out.
    Thanks.

They actually make both DAO and DA/SA....

If it's only firing DAO, I'd check the hammer, look if the notches are worn after you remove the entire thing...

Or bring it into a gunshop. And, you can also call Beretta USA, as these were being repaired in MD locally as of a few years ago...

Did you try different ammo/mags to rule that out? Was it clean and lubed up? Make sure it's not short stroking. Enough dirt in the track where the lug rides could cause it.

I haven't had an issue with my Cougar but did have a CZ-75 which had to be sent back for a similar problem. Sear was replaced under warranty.
