I have read the original PMAGs didn’t tolerate being stored loaded long term very well. I also understand the later generation mags are okay, even without the spring depressor clips. Is this correct?

    What is the accurate assessment?

I’ve got 7 Gen3 pmags that have been loaded since 2013 I think. I can’t say for sure that they will work since they’ve been stored, but they haven’t exploded yet.

If you're looking for a spring upgrade from what I understand the Tubb flatwire springs are more durable and take up less space. I think you can fit 33 rounds in a standard magazine as a result.

I thought if you did not use the dust cover you should not leave them full loaded for long periods

I've got some that have been loaded with 29 rounds for at least 6 or 7 years, most without the dust cover. Can't say if that has had a negative effect, I suppose it's about time to go dig them up and find out. I hope I remember where I buried them...

Beginning of this year(January) I found five original straight 20rd pmags I had packed away and forgot about. I know for a fact they have been loaded since January 2009. I fired the rounds out of two of them with no hiccups. I continued using them that range session with no issues. I know two mags isn’t a great test but it’s something. I still have three loaded and will take them to the range after the covid/elections.
