"...a well regulated militia..." what does this mean? thanks.

In its simplest terms it meant a citizenry who had personal firearms and supplies and knew how to use them. It had nothing to do with governmental regulation. It was in fact the exact opposite.

It means every able-bodied man of at least 17 and under 45 years of age, that is able to provide his own arms. Or at least that's what Congress said.

Can't we just cut to the chase, instead of jerking each other off for somebody's amusement? :mad54:

Are you just going to go ahead and omit the rest of the 2a that helps give this context? How about this....

...what does this mean, "...the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed" ?

As Maryland residents I think we understand the importance of choosing "shall" when crafting a law rather than "may". I think we also understand why "people" was ratified as lowercase, not upper case...as was "militia" and "state".

As far as your part, regulated essentially means equipped and prepared for defense. The founding fathers wished to give the PEOPLE the ability and tools to readily act in their own defense. This goes for fighting criminals, external threats, and internal tyranny.

My way back machine is currently experiencing difficulties, so I can't go and speak to the Founding Fathers.

But we just kicked the shyt out of the British and staying well trained would have its benefits. This, of course, is only my opinion.

None of this means I agree with the modern state making handgun training mandatory.

If this is your line of attack, I will award points for tenaciousness.
