Buy a small can of Kroil and use it a few times within nose range of your wife. She will beg you to switch back to Shooter's Choice.

As mentioned. G96. It smells amazing

    G96 makes the following:

    Triple action gun treatment
    Silicone Gun Cloth
    Gun Oil, 4 oz.
Military Grade Bore Solvent, 4 oz.
    Crud Buster polymer safe
    Liguid gun grease

What do you all like/use from list above? Which are your favorites?
I assume it to be true that G96 has a pleasant limited smell.

The original G96 gun oil and "triple action" in aerosol are the same thing.
There is also a synthetic-based gun oil, which I haven't used.

The original oil smells dreamy and won't saturate your house.
I use it more for light cleaning and preservative than breaking up deposits or lubrication,
it does a decent job on bores but may need something more specific for heavy fouling.

Scott's Gunsmithing usually carries the large cans and occasionally has the smaller cans (larger can is a MUCH better deal). It's what Scott most often uses back in the shop.

Have a spray bottle of Frebreeze handy or a dab of Vick's under her nostrils. Works to impede the odor of rotting flesh.
Henceforth on MDS, you will also be known as Jack Crawford.

My wife does not like the smell of Shooter's Choice gun cleaner. In fact, she hates it and this is causing me no small amount trouble. How am I supposed to practice dry firing at the TV when my wife can't stand the smell of my gun cleaner? It does linger long after the cleaning, I'll agree to that with her. Is there a more fragrant cleaner? Maybe something with a hint of pot pourri and yet still manly enough to feel comfortable at the range?

Back to your original question; I think you've got some good advice here.

    - find a suitable CLP that she likes the smell of
    - clean your guns outside, leave the dirty paper towels, q-tips, pipe cleaners, etc. outside.
    - for dry-firing, wipe as much lube off the gun as possible
    - turn on a fan, or vent, or train/clean outside/or in the garage
    - do your cleaning/training when you know she's going to be out of the house for several hours

The best thing I ever did was finish a gun/reloading bench in the garage. The old kitchen cabinets had been out there for a few years. All it took was a good plywood top.

Not only is the wife insulated from any smell or grease, but I get an hour or two without the household drama.

If you must clean in the house, may I recommend Gunzilla? It's a fairly effective plant-based cleaner/lubricant. It's a pretty odorless wonder lube.

Excellent idea! We had a discussion about hairspray and its gagging effects one morning. When I suggested to neutralize with Kroil, that hairspray cloud decreased significantly.

I use Shooter's Choice but don't care for the smell either, so I do what a friend of mine showed me. I soak a patch in Hoppe's #9 and pin it to the wall and THEN go ahead and clean my guns with Shooter Choice. That way my guns are clean and the room smells like gun cleaning should.
