Not really. Resident permits are issued through the county court clerk's office. NR permits are issued by VSP. By law resident permits must be issued in 45 days.

    Doesn't apply to us furriners.

I know this thread is about SNP, but just be aware that the rules are quite different for the GW/JNF. As far as I can tell, it is illegal to OC in these areas without a valid CHP - unless you're hunting of course.

    http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/publiclands.asp#nationalparks

"It shall be unlawful to have in possession a bow, crossbow, or any firearm which is not unloaded and cased or dismantled on all National Forest lands statewide, or on Department-owned lands and on lands managed by the Department under cooperative agreement in counties west of the Blue Ridge Mountains except during the period when it is lawful to take bear, deer, grouse, pheasant, quail, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey or waterfowl on these lands; and on Department- owned lands and on lands managed by the Department under cooperative agreement in counties east of the Blue Ridge Mountains except during the period when it is lawful to take bear, deer, grouse, pheasant, quail, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl or migratory game birds on these lands. (See exception for valid concealed handgun permit holders)."

it's ok to OC in SNP because VA law doesn't prohibit it.

Hunting has nothing to do with it. NF and NP are different entities and have different laws.

NF are under the jurisdiction of the National Forest Service, part of the Dept. of Agriculture.

The NPS is under the jurisdiction of the Dept. of the Interior.

    Two different entities entirely.

Just because you don't think you are huntintg doesn't remove you gfrom the statutes intended to presumably deter illegal hunting.

Idealy ( aans and probably most of the time , various LE agencies will be able to tell the difference between , poaaching and going about everydy activity. But if someone wanted to be an ***hole , aand apply the maaxium letter of the statute .mm. ....

.., The law also states thatcarry into a building regularly occupied by federal employees and POSTED is illegal.

    .
With the comment about checking the restroom first for a sign, would that imply that Federal employees spend a large amount of time in the restrooms?

Have you ever seen a no guns sign on a restroom in a NP? Even if a Federal employee spends half the day in the crapper, if there's no sign, it's legal

You can camp and crap at Big Meadows Campground. Nice place.
Yeah this is where we just spent a week and it was great.

Hiked Dark Hollow Falls, Lewis Falls, Loft Mtn overlook trail and Stony Man overlook trail as well as the meadow and some climbing up and down Blackrock with the 11yo.

Was a great time, saw a mature Black bear playing with the trap in the campsite, and a mother with cubs in the DH Falls trail (head in a swivel for that one though she seemed pretty oblivious to us).

Lots to do in that section of the park and all the trails above were doable with the whole family including the 3yo (walk downhill, shoulder ride uphill) and my wife who is in her 2nd trimester :)

    Love it there
