I suspect it's 1899 -1904 + vintage. Who can say for sure what model/type I cant figure it out by the lock-work, its 38 spcl cartridge.

The Hand Ejector 2nd Model wasn’t made in 38 Special.

There is a picture of the internals of an early 38 Hand Ejector that looks a lot like yours along with a nice write up of the history.

Pic(s) of rest of gun ?

Or not to belabor the obvious , the S/N ?

Thanks for the info everybody, I need to find a trigger. All I see is assemblers codes that are about 1000 figures off from each other. I don't think there were a significant number of pistols of this particular type. There is a barrel under-lug to support the ejector rod but this model still has a flat trigger return spring.
Ill get some pictures up once I start working on it, its a mess but could be repaired once I find a replacement trigger.

On all S&W Revolvers , the * Real * S/N is on the bottom of the butt . In certain eras , the actual s/n will be repeated on the frame inside the crane , if the gun was equipped with adjustable rear sight and oversize stocks from the factory . All the other numbers are assembly numbers that might have relationship to s/n , or might be random .

But seriously , more pics . The shape of the ejector rod is one of the clues to variant .
