I am a blacksmith and bladesmith, been forging steel and iron for about 6-7 years. I really liked the RMJ tac hawks, and I am impatient so I made my own.

Thanks fellas! RJ, i used 5160.

Clandestine, I put em up for sale if I make em, they take a fair bit of work to make them the way I do so it's not too often.

If you do make more shoot me a Private Message if you want to part with one. If the price is in my budget Ill definitely take one.

    Outstanding work.

I was going to buy a RJM but its a long savings endeavor. I have tried cheaper Hawks and they suck. All steel is the way to go.

How many normalizations do you perform?
    Anneal once?
Do you use a thermocouple? Knife oven? Or good old just past non-magnetic?
    What quenchant?
What temps are you tempering at?

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm relatively new to forging. I've done stock removal, HT, temper, but all shade-tree stuff. 1060-1080 annealed stock. I've banged railroad spikes on an anvil a few times. But I'm getting pretty serious with it now. I'd love to get some insight.

I'm also in the market for some decent hammers, tongs, and a better anvil.

I'm nervous about normalization and annealing, grain grown, etc.

Do you anneal in vermiculite/perlite buried? I'm sorta hoping you don't have an oven, everyone has one it seems and I really want to learn to do this without gadgets. But, I've resigned myself to the fact that ill own a knife oven in very short order..

I've bought 5 different models and none of which I was thrilled with. I would LOVE to buy one that you made. If you ever have some to sell, PLEASE let me know. I have cash, ammo, and/or blades.
