Is it okay to use the standard 30 " Full choke barrel on an 70's vintage Remington 1100 to shoot steel shot for duck and goose hunting or should I get a different barrel?

I was also looking for a slug barrel for deer. I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks!

I appreciate the advice for the bird barrel. I was concerned about the steel shot tearing it up.

I'm looking to get a slug barrel to use for deer, but was wondering if it was worth getting a rifled one. I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

Might be worth looking into something different for slugs, im thinking if its of that vintage it was made to cycle 2 ¾" only......

Not only no but HELL NO. The steel is not compatible with the full choke. You probably ought to find a skeet barrel for it. If you have your heart set on that barrel, you can use bismuth shot, but it is expensive. If you aren't worried about a rifled slug barrel, you could use the skeet barrel for both steel and slugs.

    D'oh! Disregard my ignorance.

Mine has only been used for light target loads. Keeping in mind this is a fixed choke, not screw in.

Before you spend money on a slug barrel, shoot my 12 gauge with slugs out of it. Knowing you, I do not think you will enjoy shooting slugs.

I will be working on a 20 gauge slug gun Friday. If you have time to stop by and try it.

Shooting 1 box of Bismuth a year should be cheaper then a new barrel

Why is it bad to use a full choke with steel? I've shot hundreds of loads of steel out of my full choke Ithica 37 with no problems.
