We are known for our public messaging, but increasingly, we in the Patriot Picket are going to the scene of news events to bring back a close-up look that the Main Stream Media leaves out.

My blog report today from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School—complete with pictures—is coming up but first the background on the developments unfolding today:

Eleven months after the school shooting at the high school in Parkland FL, the commission appointed to review what happened is releasing its draft findings.

Short story: the Broward County Sheriff’s Office—led by the arrogant Scott Israel—was a total fail.

Everyone knows of the chief Broward Coward—school resource officer Scot Peterson—but the findings just released cast blame on many others in the BSO.

    https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/...a-school-shooting-commission-day-2-story.html

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, meeting in Tallahassee, spent the morning going through its draft report on the law enforcement response and agreed to further highlight the Sheriff’s Office failures in command, training and individual performance.

Sgt. Brian Miller, the first supervisor on the scene, arrived in time to hear three or four shots. But rather than rush in or attempt to take command, the report said he took time to put on his bulletproof vest and hid behind his car on Holmberg Road, not going on the radio for 10 minutes.

“Miller failed to coordinate or direct deputies’ actions and did not direct or coordinate an immediate response into the school,” the report said. “… Sergeant Miller’s actions were ineffective and he did not properly supervise the scene.”

A hat tip to PBharvey who posted this awesome article from the South Florida Sun Sentinel in another thread:

    https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/...eman-douglas-draft-report-20181212-story.html

Armed teachers, stronger security and better law enforcement are needed to head off another school shooting like the one in Parkland, according to a panel reviewing the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The state commission investigating the shooting that killed 17 people on Feb. 14 released a draft report Wednesday listing a series of failures by Broward County agencies and recommendations for avoiding a similar tragedy in the future.

The 407-page report, which is not final, found that deputies didn’t rush into the school to stop the carnage, and school staff committed numerous security breaches, including leaving doors unlocked and not calling a “Code Red” alarm quickly enough.

The panel also voted to include a controversial proposal allowing classroom teachers to carry guns in schools if they go through a selection process that would include background checks and training. Such a change would require the state Legislature’s approval.

Right now, school systems are allowed under a guardian program to arm certain school employees, such as security guards, administrators or librarians.

I am in South Florida this week and have been watching the Miami TV coverage of the Commission and it’s findings skewering Sheriff Israel, some of his personnel, and much of his administration of his agency.

Traveling to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School this afternoon, I saw seemingly carefree students that were hovered over by their parents.

I say that because at the time the school let’s out for the day, the campus is ringed, bumper to bumper with parents waiting to pick up their student. I have never in my life seen any school, much less a high school, totally ringed with parent vehicles—with 9 out of 10 of them driven by women who would appear to be the mothers.

I decided to take advantage of the public sidewalk to stroll right up to the campus to see things up close.

As expected I saw a big Broward Sheriff’s Office presence at front driveway to the school. The deputies wear green uniforms. They were supplemented by the school resource police.

The other striking visual are the number of volunteers/parents who don yellow vests to control traffic as MSD students cross the two major boulevards there. There are 6-8 “safety” people—mostly senior citizens—at every crossing point. I have never seen such attention to street crossings for one school.

Not surprisingly, the publicity for the Commission’s findings today brought out the media.

When I approached the front driveway to take some pictures, I was given a stern look by the Sheriff’s deputy. I told him I was a blogger covering Commission developments and that I wanted a picture of the patrol vehicle at the front. The deputy just glared at me, but did not waive me off.

I can attest that one year later, the students appear carefree. Lots of the usual laughing, smiles and energy that you would expect when school let’s out.

As it happened, I had to use the crosswalk to return to my vehicle and was surrounded by the MSD students. Their easy manner was like any other school when the bell rings.

As I said I was bunched in with kids as they crowded the crosswalk. Carefree energy, and possibly not tuned into the debates about “armed teachers” that today’s Commission prelimary findings will kick off.

I hope the arrogant, blame-shifting Sheriff Scott Israel is relieved of his command and soon. As you have read he has postured up that he ain’t going anywhere.

Thank God for the frank and direct criticism of the Sheriffs serving on the Commission from surrounding counties. They are not pulling punches. They are pointing fingers directly at Israel.

I also detoured to the headquarters of the real heroes from last year: the Coral Springs Police Department. Their awesome response to the shooting is such a contrast to the jazz hands thrown up by the Broward Cowards.

The bronze statue out in front of the Coral Springs PD & Fire headquarters portraying a cop and firefighter is well deserved. Thank God for the Coral Springs department!

Remember the toy gun bill that the MGA tried to promote a couple years back. The PP and their signs embarrassed the hell out of the Dem legiscritters and showed them to be fools.
Just one example among many where the PP has been effective.

I hope that wasn’t you that they stopped! Nice to see all those kids walking and not being bused like most of those in the Fredneck area. Keep up the good work...and the pics!

Was Parkland one of the places that received a bomb threat today? Maybe that’s why so many parents picking kids up?

The implications for what Florida does with arming school staff could definitely have ramifications for the debate in MD.

Remember, it was in Florida in the mid 1980’s that Shall Issue caught fire and spread across to nearly every state in the Union. Could Florida get the “armed school staff” ball rolling for the rest of the country?

The Florida Commission, chaired by the Sheriff of Pinellas County, is recommending “armed school staff”. This could be a turning point.

Today was a day to just observe while Parkland and the rest of Florida absorb these strong commission findings. It was not a day to picket.

I think folks here recall we have stepped forward to message for “armed school staff”. This was a Marjory Stoneman Douglas student who did not want to debate the subject politely last year. Maybe this year he and others have thought about it and have a different perspective.

The middle picture is 2A legend Dick Heller standing with us at the March For Our Lives. As you can see the emotional temperature was reduced (somewhat) and allowed for some conversations.

That’s Not_An_Outlaw with our backstop message: Liberty Is Not A Loophole.

In the third picture, Buellsfurn and JimBoy represented us with welcoming postures.
