    Per the range rules:

    50 foot Pistol Range (Center position only):
    Allowed;
    Any shotgun up to 10 gauge
    Buckshot only (#4 to 000)
    Rifled shotgun slugs
    Sabots

    Prohibited;
    All multiround pellet (lead #12 thru BB, or steel #6 thru #F shot)
    Any use of Flechette, Darts, Flexible Baton Round, Incendiary, Beehive, Breeching or Explosive Rounds are expressly prohibited

    50 Yard Range (Center position only):
    Allowed;
    Rifled shotgun slugs
    Sabots

    Buckshot and pellets of any size prohibited.
    Any use of Flechette, Darts, Flexible Baton Round, Incendiary, Beehive, Breeching or Explosive Rounds are expressly prohibited

    100 Yard Range (Center positions only):
    Allowed;
    Rifled shotgun slugs
    Sabots

    Buckshot and pellets of any size prohibited
    Any use of Flechette, Darts, Flexible Baton Round, Incendiary, Beehive, Breeching or Explosive Rounds are expressly prohibited

    As for the range being torn up, we have found it to simply be that folks aren't aware of their impact zone where they are aiming/shooting. There is a reason there is a minimum and maximum height to the target area, and that is to get the rounds into the sand in the berms.

    At some point, we have a contractor coming in to do some much needed range maintenance and take care of some serious support, backstop, overhead stop issues.

    Thanks i had forgotten that you could shoot shot on the 50' centers.

    I've shot at Berwyn with my buddy who is a member. I like it a lot but can't spend 450 on joining. It if was lower I'd join in a second . But I can join thie AGC for about 250.00. It's a much nicer range in my opinion fr less money. but you have to get used to RO's and stopping and waiting for more than a few ppl to change targets.
    At Berwyn, I've never seen a line per say but have beem there when there was a little wait at the pistol side. ( you'll never have that problem at AGC...tons of lanes everywhere). Berwyn only has a Few spots.

    I was actually at Berwyn today. For you members , I want to make you aware of the fact that while I was there and was looking at the damage on the pistol range, I and my buddy also saw metal bits embedded into the no sky boards over head and posts coming down. It seems as someone is making their own rounds fr a shotgun and trying them on the pistol range. You may want t bring this up at your next meeting as I thought you couldn't shoot shotgun there for one and the other reason was I put my hand on the post coming down and almost had one of those metal bits n my hand. Not safe at all.:sad20:

    At 450 year, it better include ammo.

    Put it this way: convenience and nice facilities are worth paying for. Not everyone has the money, I know, but for those of us who do, it's a good spot. In my particular case, it was basically the choice of "$400 and be able to go whenever I want during the week" vs "spend $200 and go once a month if I'm lucky". I didn't get into guns to fondle them at home; I got into them to shoot them.

    I prefer to do both, but that's just me :).

    I agree, I like Berwyn a lot, it's very easy going and I've never seen anyone acting badly. However the evidence is there that some ppl need their membership revoked since they can't hit the target or the berm. And instead tear the place apart and cost the club more money t fix , which can then lead to more dues. I like to g shooting all the time. I can't afford to she'll out 450 a year and with the limited time I do get to shoot. I'm better off waiting and going with friends to a range they belong to or driving to my buddies in white hall and shoot on his property all day fr free. But if the price was say 250.00, I'd join Berwyn in a second.

    Thanks for the info dblas

    No problem at all.

    BTW, Berwyn has now started a waiting list to join as we have reached our max limit as of last month of 450 members.

    Did I miss something somewhere?

    No, no, it's just that Berwyn saying it's got a membership cap is like saying you can only eat one potato chip, "This is the last gun I'll buy" or "I'll still love you in the morning".

    Most clubs have a cap, some have just never made it close enough to enforce.

    There was discussion about raising the limit, but it didn't go anywhere at the last meeting.

    No biggy, they won't take your money until you are voted in. You should still be able to take the range orientation class and get a waiting number.

    I'm in Millersville and have been considering an AGC club. I didn't know about Berwyn and just checked it out online.

    Anyone have an opinion on the differences between the two? How does one go about joining Berwyn?

    The AGC is composed of 29 different clubs whop use the range. You can join any of the clubs. There are 15 charter clubs (who originally formed and put up the cash to buy the range in the late 1940's) and can vote in the AGC Borad of Trustees meetings (1st Tuesday of the month, 7:30PM Barnes Range House).

    With 29 clubs available, you can find one that meets your shooting needs/desires. Some are focused on high power (MD Rifle and Baltimore Rifle come to mind), some to black powdwer (Marriottsville Muzzle Loaders Maryland Mettalic), pistol/bulls-eye (Garrison) and others offer all types of shooting events (Arlington, Monumental, Stemmer's Run, Mt Washington).

    My suggestion is that you go to the AGC website and contact the various clubs and attend a few meetings or events. Join the club that suits you. I spent about 6 months going to meetings before I chose Monumental.

    Was a member there I guess 20 years ago. How long ago did they shut down the 200 yard range? I shot a few high-power matches there, pretty well attended back then.

    200 Yard range is still closed.

    It is on the list of things for renovation, but overhead baffles and associated work to make it a "no open sky" range will cost a bit. Currently the club is working on range maintenance on the existing ranges and baffles.

    I have an update to this.

    While there is a waiting list, those folks that have applied, taken the range orientation and been voted in, will be made associate members.

    What does this get you?

    The ability to participate in all club activities.

    The ability to participate in club meetings. No voting rights, but opinions and ideas can be expressed.

    Keeps you in line to be immediately moved up to full member when an opening becomes available. At this time, the turnover rate is about 40 - 50 at the beginning of each year.

    Cost is $75/year (pro-rated based on when voted in) and the $200 administration fee (one time fee that everyone pays).

    Sooo fr 275 you can do everything but vote and use the range? Or can they use the range?

    "An Associate Member does not have range privileges, voting privileges or the authority to hold office. "

    Sounds like a scam to get money from new people without their being able to shoot.

    At AAF&G we have associate members but they can shoot at any range as long as there is another member on the range. In six months, when they complete their orientations and training, they they get voted in as full members. Oh, our cost is only $250 a year. ;)
