    OC,

Did you start your cuts from an outside edge then work around your chalk line?

    No.

Take an exacto knife or razor blade and cut a pilot hole on the inside of your pattern. Feed the wire through that hole. Turn it on and start cutting and you'll eventually end up back at the starting point. Then turn it off and remove the wire.

    Make sense?

Is this method better, or offer advantages over a $12 electric knife from Walmart, which is what I have become proficient with?

Having never tried the electric knife method, I can't honestly answer that. I've heard from people who have done both that this is much "cleaner."

If you like your results, no reason to change. I've seen some knife jobs that have pretty rough edges and aren't as detailed. My foam looks factory cut. Functionally, I don't know that this way is better. Probably just personal preference and looks.
