I will be getting a ruger precision rifle in the near future and wanted some input on scopes, anything possibly random to know or should be known by a new owner of a 6.5

there is a sat & sun long range precision match coming up in a few weeks (aug 18 & 19) at peacemaker near inwood, wv.
Truth be told I'm thinking target and distance. I dont have a full thought out budget budget as of yet I would prefer to stay under 5k for a scope. but then again I've never done any heavy distance shooting or anything past 500yrd.

I definitely prefer MIL/MIL. It's just weird to use MOA on the dial but just holdovers with MIL. I don't like having to think that much. It all boils down to whatever you're used to.
Don't count out a fixed power scope!
I agree, whatever you choose always stay MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA. The SWFA line up is great. The fixed 10X gets great reviews and it will get you in the game for cheap. I just like having a zero stop. The SWFA quad mil reticle is more useful versus a standard mil dot.
I don't like anything over 12x personally.
If my scopes turrets track reliably and it's decently clear glass, I'm happy. Maybe I'm ignorant but I can't really justify paying over a few hundred for a long range scope.
Yeah the 10X SWFA will get you to 1000yds. Check out the Rex reviews on YouTube lots of good info.

if you're partial to vortexthe hd razor 2 4.5-27 is great or the vortwx amgI personally love vortex optics, got them on my AR platforms. for my bolt actions 308 I've got an amazing Leupold Waterproof VX-6 7-42x scope which I got as a gift so I'm trying to keep about the same quality and level of precision that an optic of that level can offer. I'm still very new to distance target practice for anything over 300yards.

finally you
can have the best rig, but if the operator is not disciplined or any good
basically it doesn't matter...or on their "game"...we have our good days
and then their is the bad days...
