-I own just a handful of black powder rifles and this was the first to enter the collection. It's an 1888 Springfield Trapdoor rifle. The stock cartouche dates it to 1893 and the SN puts production in March 1893 so it's one of the last built, having been replaced in 1892 by the new Krag rifle.
-The 1888 has some unique features, the prominent being the round rod bayonet, which proceeds that used on the original Springfield 1903. This example is correct with all the features of the 1888. The front sight cover looks to be a new reproduction since the finish is much stronger than the rest of the rifle.
-The case hardened finish on the action is still visible and the nitre blue on the trigger guard is very strong.
-From time to time I've tried to ID the stock marks. There's gotta be a good back story to them.
-The steel pistol grip is also a mystery to me. I've tried to verify if it's a very good repop (my assumption) or an original as all the known repops I've seen were much rougher than this one.

Outside my normal wheelhouse but that's a purty one :)
Just has a nice clean look, screws look unmolested too.

Nice, buddy and I got ones from the trapdoorcollector guy. Mine was like unissued and my buddy's was nice with a mint bore.
He did reloads for it and they touch holes at 50 yards.
