This is another one I have started thinking about. Have not had a chance to look at them and wondered how true they are to the Browning design. Aren't the Sig 45 Autos a bit modified in that regard? Anyway, the Wessons look good and don't cost an arm and a leg.

I have an RZ 45 Heritage. It is the identical design to the original 1911. It has no stupid Shwarz safety like a Kimber has nor the Colt series 80 version of the firing pin safety.

    Plain old 1911.

    Cost me about 1100 bucks.

    Shoots great.

I think it has the shwarz safety they all do . But it does not have all the series 80 stuff in the slide or a external extractor .

I own one. It has no firing pin safety of any kind. That was a huge selling point for me.

I sold my Kimber and bought a DW.

    see specs below

    no it isn't .

The Swartz safety is a separate firing pin safety. the grip safety blocks the trigger bow from pushing on the sear thus releasing the hammer hooks and dropping the hammer. the grip safety is called the grip safety

    two different mechanisms.

in the video he's checking the firing pin, not the
    trigger.

    do you own a 1911?

the picture below shows the swartz safety stops the firing pin from moving. it has nothing to do with the hammer and sear as the grip safety does.

JMB's 2nd design included a grip safety. It did not have a firing pin safety of any kind.

The grip safety was added at the request of the U.S. Army.

the picture shows it has nothing to do with the firing pin. only the sear, trigger bow and hammer.

The grip safety was added <to the Colt 1905/07> at the request of the U.S. Army.

To expand on that, the Colt Model 1905 .45 only had a half-cock "safety" so for the 1907 trials (which ultimately led to the 1911) they requested a positive safety and a grip safety was added.
There's at least one experimental 1905/07 with a thumb safety too.
All models subsequent to the Colt 1905/07 have a grip safety... (Models 1909, 1910, 1911)

The Swartz safety was added to the commercial Government Model only in the late 30's, never used for the military 1911-A1
(some frame/slides milled for the Swartz were used for military but it wasn't installed).
It fell out of favor post-war and not seen again until revived in Series 80, albeit in an improved form.

MILSPEC for 1911 and -A1 does not include the Swartz safety so any true MILSPEC 1911 recreation will not have it.

bingo/ The DW is built to mil spec, no swartz safety never was used on a DW pistol,

ETA The Swartz safety and the Colt series 80 safeties are different designs

On DW: No MIM parts, no trigger tuning needed and better built than most other production guns.
