I'm sure someone has done it. If there is a thread could someone bump it to the top please. I'm looking for a mod list on what would be needed to make my 10/22 reliably cycle cci .22lr quiets. This gun will be a dedicated quiet shooter.

You will need to put a lighter spring on the guide rod. Kidd sells a kit that includes a lighter spring and a polished guide rod. Note: you will need to purchase a bolt handle to use with the included guide rod.

You can cut coils from a recoil spring assembly or you can buy a 22 short bolt from Volquartsen or even lighten a spare ebay bolt. You will loose more velocity by having it cycle so don't try killing anything.
I usually keep the bolt closed with my support hand when I am out cleaning up pests.

Not even squirrels or ground hogs at 25 yards? I have segmented HP quiets also.

You are only getting @700 FPS with a closed bolt. At 25 yards, they may bounce off their heads.

I use them for pest birds inside of 25 yards. Squirrels I only shoot inside of 15 yards out the window. I don't want to wound anything and have it suffer in the woods.

Dang, I saw cycling and 22lr quiets in the title and I thought it was going to be a thread about getting rid if bike riders before the even knew what was happening. :(

 Even though I am a bike rider, I found this funny and I don't approve of the 3 feet rule especially on rural single lane roads. :sad20:

My son and I have shot squirrels with 22 quiets on a suppressed 10/22. The bolt clang ads noise and I would have been better off locking the bolt down somehow or threading a bolt gun. CCI subsonic works and cycles but is louder. I'll be monitoring this thread to see if there is something easy. I can say this, Squirrels are immortal to a CCI quiet unless you get a head shot. They don't die right quickly, even when shot through a lung. I switched to CCI subsonic and its quiet enough w/ the suppressor. Now that deer season is over, I'm taking out the squirrels to feed my dogs.

The best rifle/ammo combination I have used for squirrels is a Remington 510 (with 26 inch barrel) and Aquilla 40gn Sub Sonic. Yes there is a little report but the 26 inch barrel burns nearly all the powder and keeps it low. It also gives you a little more range.

My Benjamin Marauder pistol shooting 18.2 gn Barracuda Hunter pellets at 900FPS (highly modified platform), kills squirrels faster than the 40 grain CCI Quiet out of a 16 inch Ruger 10/22 inside of 35 yards.

I normally killed squirrels with a 10/22 and some quiets. Most times it would blow through them and take all their insides and out them outside the body.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I have the set of 3 KIDD springs and I think I'm running the red spring and was having issues in my 10/22 last time out with subsonics. Going to the "no color" spring for 10% reduction from standard and hopefully will have better luck.

I believe the no color spring is the same as OEM. Red is heavier and white is for subsonic.

Yeah, better off with body shots. Only takes about 300fps to penetrate skin for something like a 22lr. 20, 25 yards should punch through a squirrel, but a skull, yeah it might bounce off it.

Segmented might be where it is at. Could be good for coons at chicken coop ranges. Henry golden boy FTW for them.

My Hatsan .22 PCP air rifle is internally suppressed and shoots an 18 grn pellet at just over 900FPS and kills squirrels deader than a nail..60dB report which is about as loud as human talks normally. I wouldn't want to shoot one with anything less than about 800FPS. I've tried to kill them with Eley and Anguilla subsonics and it's just not very humane..I have a Ruger internally suppressed barrel on order for my 10/22 take down but with current wait times I won't see it until October...Going to give that a try while deer hunting next year. The Hatsan works well but it's a huge rifle and it's too much work to carry it along with my crossbow into the woods. https://hatsanusa.com/collections/pneumatics/products/bt65sb-qe

I was never able to get my 10/22 cycle with the quiets. I changed springs, cut off other spring, reshaped the bolt. Used a mill to take material off of the bolt to make it lighter. Nothing worked 100%.

That is until I bought the Firefly bolt. Now it cycles the Quiets like they were meant to be. The only thing to remember, do not use this bolt with ammo having a rating faster than 1000 fps. It's a lightweight aluminum bolt that is hardened somehow. Works great with the Quiets, but please don't use anything other than subsonic ammo slower than 1000 fps.
