While I realize this is NOT going to be a popular question, this was the conversation that has monopolized my friends conversations with me at work recently, and I'd like some more input. First, I acknowledge the ban was wrong then, and would be now as well. That being said, how realistic is it to assume we WILL be getting another Ban along the lines of the Clinton era ban? My supposition was that if a ban is enacted, it may not have the "expiration date" the last one had, and that if it happens, this will be the last time my family may see these rifles, accessories etc being allowed to be bought legally. I can not possibly imagine an outright ban taking place, only future sales, but, who knows. I can't imagine you will find ANY of the gun grabbers volunteering to knock on doors to ACTUALLY take them from anyone.
    Thoughts, opinions?

I hate to admit it, but over a long enough timeline I expect we'll see another nationwide AW ban. As long as idiots keep abusing their rights and shooting up schools and nightclubs, the pols will continue "doing something". As the blue cities continue to outgrow the red states in population it'll be easier and easier for dems to pass poor policy in the coming decades.

Like most movements the current schoolkid protests will eventually die down, but it's the most compelling display the gun grabbers have put on, ever. Emotion is a compelling argument, even if it lacks reason.

I think its very likely and sooner than we hope.

and this time I expect them to not only ban sales but ask for voluntary confiscation. then those who don't comply will have to keep their firearms locked up and they may as well not have them if you cant use them.

its a shame sine we have the white house, the house and the senate. you would think now would be the time to pass as many pro gun laws as possible.

republicans suck, and them sucking will take us down.

The only thing that saved our bacon was the sun-set clause on the original AWB.... I don't think we will be so lucky the next time.

    exactly right.

and if they could get it to the floor , judging by how the republicans have been acting in Washington, not to mention the traitors right here in the MGA, I believe it could happen now, as in this session of congress.

it scares me right to death. they are testing the waters for it now along with a background check for ammo purchases. whatever sticks and when it sticks is how they will shove it in us.

Doesn’t make me feel any better about my upcoming move to CA but it doesn’t make me feel worse...

There is too much 2A cherishing and love for our Second Amendment coming out of the White House for there to be a new ban on EBRs.

I get the feeling that the Second Amendment is in more danger now than it has been at any time in my life. And unlike in the Clinton years we have a liberal establishment passionately united (and well financed) since Trump. In fact, our entire society is in danger of a drastic sea change towards authoritarian socialism in the next few years. The kiddies marching is just one symptom, not a catalyst of anything. That's just liberal recruiting of kids. The leftists have played the long game since the 1930's and now you are seeing the dividends.

I can’t even imagine the no grandfathering clause. Sooooo many people.... the logistics behind trying to do it fails me...

What logistics? Many will voluntarily hand them in...the police aren't going to kick in your door...they will simply mine their database (including FFL logs), find those who haven't done so and pick them up at work, at church or some other public place. If you can't or won't produce the weapons or a bill of sale with the buyer's info you go to jail...they have all the time in the world...it will take decades, but they will get most of them..

80% is the answer...buy all your parts with cash locally..

Ok, so if you had a registered lower, is that all that can be taken? The rest of the parts are
    Still yours then?

I'm glad you brought this up. Cuzz I wasn't going to open that can of worms.

You are correct. The receiver IS the firearm. You'd be well within your legal rights to hand them the stripped lower and be done with the turn-in.

But I have no doubt they'd write the law in a way that says the entire/complete rifle would need to be turned in.

They know 80s are out there. And they won't allow parts floating around/being sold to finish the builds.

This is what Canada and a lot of other socialist countries do. They declare a bunch of parts controlled. Barrels, bolts, etc. There's a reason why you often see a crap ton of serial numbers on European guns. And why you almost never see even parts from Colt Canada available in the US. Canada even restricts a lot of optics from importation and exportation.

A new AWB isn't going to just ban ARs and AKs like the old one. I suspect it will ban any mag fed semis, possibly including pistols. There will be no compensation and some draconian penalty for not complying...like 10 years in prison per weapon and if the guns are found in the house, everyone there at the time of the discovery gets charged with possession of an illegal firearm. That's how they will scare people into complying. You will have wives turning in their husbands just to keep from going to jail...

A national Grabagun Hotline will be rolled out too. 1-800-GRA-BGUN.

Folks will get to call in and rat out gun owners who don't comply.

There will be money sent to those doing the ratting once a grab is deemed successful.
