When I had to replace in '05 , the new well , plus running a line straight off the well to the barn ran $12K .

Today's initial service call will be credited to tommorow's pump replacement at $1600-ish .

Prorated out over 20-50yr for well, and 15-25yr for pump the monthly is cheap enough . It's just the having the big chunk bite you on the butt at random times .

I have the original ( to this house)1978 1500gal concrete tank, but replaced the original ( to the original house dating way, way back) drain line which dated to the beginning of indoor plumbing , shortly after moving in , in '91 .

I think reading this thread was bad luck. My bladder tank just blew out. Now my pump is kicking on everytime i open a faucet. I have to handle that before my pump goes out. Sometimes they pull out sometimes they dont. Thats what worries me about well pumps.

Had my replaced a couple years ago. They said 12 years is about average. Mine is 405' deep. I got about 20 yrs out of the original.

Yikes. Mine is original to the house. 32 years old. Guess I'd better start saving pennies.

Not only that, the banging off and on will cause scale and iron to loosen in the pipes and your water will be pretty bad. Run over to HD or Lowes and get a bladder, they are easy to install and you can charge it with a bicycle pump.

My father just had an irrigation well 15GPM gusher at 60 feet drilled for $2400 in DE, including pump and pipes.

I realize the risks. Im more worried about the pump than anything else. I have pretty good water in general, just high in calcium. I have a new pump just dont want to replace it. I hate doing plumbing at home because i do it everyday in other peoples houses. Ive been a plumber for 18 years. Silver lining is ive been wanting to put in a bigger tank anyways and boost up the pressure a little while im at it. Guess ill be doing that on saturday.

Just a word of caution. As a plumber i can you with the influx of cheap Chinese parts coming into the country, ask what pump the company is installing and do some research. A good pump can be really expensive and while im primarily a city plumber i have had to go behind other companies quite a few times that installed junk that didnt hold up. I wouldnt think a reputable company would install junk but when profit margin and underbidding other companies is the #1 priority it does happen. I can tell you on average it seems that newer plumbing parts and appliances have less quality control and dont last as long as they use to. When i got into plumbing it wasnt strange to take out a 25 year old water heater and now if one lasts 15 years , thats pretty good.

Thats awesome. Mine was replaced last year, the date stamp on the pump was 1986.

I replaced one about 3 years ago at a commercial property I own, same thing, original (Gould) pump from 1986.

I have a feeling the Chinese POS I put down there will NOT make it another ~30 years like the original. :sad20:

Goulds had a bad run of pumps in the late 80s/early 90s. Some of the well guys switched to Red Jacket pumps. I think that Goulds now owns them.

I think my father installed a Grundfos on his new irrigation well.
