I posted a query about this over on WeaponsGuild where Shadow Ops Weaponry is a vendor, and here's the response I got from one of their product specialists (quoted with his express permission):

"Its not closed for good, its paused. Basically there was a sort of hostile takeover by investors (who own other machining/gun parts shops) from the owner Paul. They've stopped doing new sales while they take inventory and run auditing. The silencers are machined + form 3'd already (just waiting on anodizing) so those are safe, of the lowers still left outstanding over 1000 are there machined + anodized just waiting for laser engraving, a bunch of the other parts are there too.

"I have not talked to anyone of the new group who is in control. They basically are refusing to talk at all to anyone until all the auditing (including an ATF audit, even though we just had one 3 months ago) and inventorying is complete. I think they aren't sure what they are doing until they figure out what they have and what they owe, but I really don't know for sure.

"I'm waiting on stuff I ordered too, plus a PSL kit I had sent to them to complete"

I'm explicitly NOT posting his personal opinions of the ongoing state of affairs.

So... Can I still get a refund then?

Dunno, the associated topics have been locked over on WeaponsGuild until more information is forthcoming. They don't do speculation over there, being pretty hard core on legal gun building ("builders helping builders") and suppliers for same.

I almost ordered a suppressor from those guys, but the feedback scared me off. Guess that was a good thing!

Now, on the bright side, they did prove there's a market for cheap direct-thread suppressors that don't try for top of the line performance. If someone could figure out how to mass-produce a suppressor like that, it could be a very profitable business. I mean, this one is a hundred bucks of parts, supposedly:

This thread discussed the home made suppressor in detail. Might be worth getting a trust for this.

I hope you guys get your cans or money back.

This kind of stuff is why I would never buy a suppressor from the new kid on the block. I have said it many times, wether it's a new gun, new gun company, or especially a company that makes or deals with title 2 stuff. I only buy from the big boys.

I have a trust, and I'm totally thinking of doing this next year. Of course, by next year, the trust changes might be in effect and make this a PITA (I'm sure my wife wants to be fingerprinted... not).

Then get the stamps now. :) Build the silencers later when you have time. ;)

rusty, i'm curious on how you are going to proceed...

I called the owner Paul Russ, the ATF, and the Colorado Attorney General - Consumer Affairs division. Paul never called me back - surprise, surprise. The ATF didn't pick up the phone - genuinely surprised. The Colorado AG was very responsive; I spoke with a woman named Saliza who took my information and told me a little bit about SOW's history with the CO AG.

FWIW, I wouldn't believe a damn word that the customer service rep related on the Weapons Guild forum. They've been shining me on for months and, if you read the 118+ complaints they've received at the BBB, you see that they've done the same to others. Some folks get their stuff, a lot of folks don't. I have e-mails from Sean Malahy up the wazoo telling me all this great stuff, still no suppressor. He stopped responding to my inquiries after 30 Jan. Irony of ironies, I was so tired of them telling me about anodizing (the suppressors have been manufactured and awaiting anodizing for at least six mos.) that I offered to take the suppressor unanodized if they would take a bit of money off the top of the purchase price.

Maybe the "investors" are taking inventory, auditing financials, etc. but that doesn't mean that they will reopen the company and fulfill orders. If they do reopen with new staff and management, great. I hope I receive my stuff. I think it more likely that they're taking inventory and will put the company into receivership/bankruptcy to salvage what's left of their investment.

    Dear Shadow Ops Customer:

We are primary investors in Shadow Ops Weaponry, LLC. and were forced to shut it down due to apparent improprieties in the conducting of its business. We called in the ATF and the Colorado Attorney General's Office and the plant is under lock down and under investigation. We anticipate IRS involvement and possibly the U.S. Trustee and a Chapter 7 filing is likely. If a bankruptcy filing occurs you will be afforded a file number whereupon you can file a claim with the U.S. Trustee for what you believe is due you.

Under no circumstances do we accept, nor are we obligated, to assume or pay any of Shadow Ops Weaponry, LLC. debts.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll be calling them to see if I can get my suppressor.
