Looking for a gunsmith in the area that could take a good look at this rifle.
What are you wanting looked at? My shop is in Garrett county I would be happy to help if you dont mind a drive or shipping it.
Might try rob Bollinger at Bollinger Gunsmithing intaneytown. He is meticulous and well thought of by folks on the board. He's done several things for me and I'm happy with the work. Not sure what you need done, but I'd start with him...
Good luck

Thanks. Sent them a message.
Since oct 01 has now passed, I've seen them post more on MDS, but may be worth a phone call tomorrow as if they are busy, they focus on the customers in the store and the phone before email and PMs.
Good people - if you go there pls know they've two dogs and two young daughters so caution on the drive and parking area is appreciated. I've never had a problem but better safe than sorry
Tank and Dozer (the dogs) are curious and may greet you but beyond convincing tank he didn't really want to get in my car - I've never had an issue.
Bobby at Bollingers is great. I live near New Windsor, and another option just off Rt31 is RA Brown, they call him Brownie. He's also done good work for me. Not on my Argentine 1891 Mauser (yes, I have one too, cool old Mausers), but 2 other guns I had. Good work, but not as quick as Bobby. I'll look for his info when I get home if you want it.
R.A. Brown Gun Repair. 723 Old New Windsor Pike, Westminster,MD 21157. (410)848-5917
Call first before showing up, it's in his house and hours vary. He used to do long gun transfers as well, but stopped a little while ago. I don't know if he started again. Basically if you drive east on Rt31, make a right on Stone Chapel Rd, then almost an immediate left onto Old New Windsor Pike. I think he's a few houses up on the right. His mailbox has a rifle sign on top. I do not know what his wait times are but he seemed pretty busy last time I drove by. But close. Is your 1891 a 7.65 or 7.62 conversion?

Great Thanks I will give him a call. I "think" it is a 7.65. That is one of the things I want to get checked out. I have found some 7.65 ammo but don't want to get it until I know for sure. plus of course I want to make sure it is still safe to shoot. It seems to be, bright shiny bore, nice smooth action.
Mine is in 7.62 but I am going to try and convert to 7.62x39. These old guns are nice
The dogs are friendly - one even tried to help me fill out my 77r at the picnic bench.
Yeah, you definitely want a Mosin. Not nearly as nice as the 1891 but super cheap to shoot and fun.Yes they are very nice. I want to get a Mosin next.......sounds like I am getting the addiction..lol
