I cannot recommend to you strongly enough to put in at Millville, on the Shenandoah.
Then pull out at Point of Rocks.
Would be a classic drift. With great fishing.

Ahhhh c'mon you not up for the portage across the RR tracks, a hike down the C&O, and then across the little bridge.

That's nothing - you just can't get a parking spot.
    Or waste time trying..

I HAVE THE ANSWER!Cross the 340 bridge, hang a sharp right at the end of it,
it will dump you to a flattish area on the right at the Shenandoah at Harpers' Ferry.
At some parking lot / take out. Dump your canoes, baggage, etc, have the shuttle divers GTFO.
Sorry I didn't mention this before, I forgot.
These are big rivers, wear your life vests at all times,
You need a whistle per canoe on the Potomac,
if you put in at Harpers, then flush out into the Potomac,
you can go to the far side for Whitehorse rapids....
    or pick rock gardens ...

Since you have no parking issues, this is 100% the best answer.

What about at the end of Rt 180 near the C&O locks #31? Does it fill up that fast? Years ago used to park there and then go to the river to fish.

I think the MD 180 takeout is what we are calling Sandy Hook.
It's hit or more likely Miss Miss Miss.

I'm not worried about parking. We're getting dropped off there.
Then u mentioned: Go Across the 340 bridge over the Shenandoah, then hang a
HARD right at the end after the bridge, go down and on the right is
the friendliest put- in around. See above posts, I know this area well.

Well, I suggest you beware of the Pookah fish! It is an underwater predator that feeds on the toes and earlobes of unsuspecting mammals. It also likes to dance to the Pookah Shake, the remix of the remix of Bookah Shake, remixed by Thoomas Jack. I recommend wearing steeltoe boots and ear gauges, that should throw that there fish for a loop!

I have put in at Noland's Ferry and canoed upstream to Point of Rocks, then drifted back down. Nice day trip for moderately experienced paddlers and decent fishing if you catch the water level right. If you have an abundance of energy, you can continue upstream past the steel bridge and make it a longer float back.

FWIW, whenever I put into running water, I try to make the first leg of the trip upstream so I can make it back tired.
