Took the seldom shot Iver Johnson 1980 ish M-1 Carbine to Creasap today. It was fun and fustrating. Could not get it sighted in. I was hoping to use it for CMP at TCSC next Sunday.

Is my method correct? If you shoot low, slide the peep (back sight) sight down ramp. Shoot high, slide the peep sight up ramp. I used the rear ramp detent posistions for repeatability.

At 100 yards, finally setteled for hitting the center ring (5"?)by aiming two ring diameters low.

The sight picture has the front sight left and right standards level with the rear sight sholders. The top of the front site blade is center horizontal and vertical. Target sits on top of center front sight blade.

So you can shoot 4-5 ring at 100 yards by aiming low, How would you move the rear sight?

The sight has detents marked 1, 2, 2.5 and 3. I assume these are yards?

Is their some trick I'm missing?

You have it completely backwards. If you're shooting low, and you want to move the point of impact up, you move the rear sight up. That will cause you to raise the front sight up...

Remember, move the sight in the direction you want to point of impact to go...

    Always remember FORS (pronounced fours).

    Front Opposite Rear Same

Want to move the impact spot with the front sight, move it in the opposite direction you want the impact to move. Move the rear sight in the same direction you want the impact to shift.
