A 3500 ton cache of WW2 stuff. Think of all the poor neglected k31s! Oh the humanity! I dunno if I’d shoot ammo that’s been buried for 80 years though.

I'm curious to know what a 3.5kT conventional explosion looks like.

Well, here's a 3.5kT nuclear groundburst in downtown Baltimore:

Not sure if that article mentioned, but another one did that during the war 8000 tons of explosives in the cache blew up. Killed something 67 people in the village. From the cache buried deep in the mountain.

So in this case at least the mountain does a lot of shielding. But it’s still a nuclear range explosion. Though without any of the radiation.

But that’s why the cache is going to take so long to remove and why it’s dangerous. It’s partially buried. They are deciding between can they remove it all (or enough) of the 3.5kt remaining undetonated? Or do they need to drop the mountain on it, put up signs and abandon the village and mountain for the next few thousand years.
