I have picked up a Gen 1 Colt SAA that has had all of the finish stripped from the frame. The barrel and cylinder are both Colt replacements and are blued, giving it a striking two tone look. However I prefer a more vintage appearance so I want to get it refinished. I'm thinking case color for the frame, and having the trigger guard and backstrap blued to match the cyli der/ barrel.

Is there anyone reasonably local that can do the work? I live in Annapolis.

Stirring the pot, is a first generation safe to use with modern smokeless powder?
There is no question Turnbull does first class work, for a 1st generation are those the bluing options that would best improve the value of the gun?

1st Gen includes up to 1941 . Those mfg since aprox 1896 were intended for smokeless.

But yes for a 1st gen you will want a restoration specialist.

Need to find a new image hosting site. Dropped photo bucket when they started charging for sharing images to other sites.

Turnbull is a little rich for my blood -- a restoration for a SAA starts at $3800 plus parts. Frankly I don't think the gun is worth a total restoration nor does it need it. I just don't want to leave the frame "in the white".
