Just wondering if a rebarreling a SA M1A Scout to 6.5 Creedmore would make it compliant or would it still be considered a grandfathered and banned for resale M1A by SN?

    Please to discuss.....

google is your friend, I am not.
Well, if an FFL has a banned rifle like the AR-15, and replaces the barrel with an HBAR, they can sell it to you as an HBAR. If they have a bullpup or "Copycat" rifle (bullpup<29", or flash hider + folding stock) they can add appropriate length as a permanent muzzle device to make it >29", or replace the flash hider with a brake, then they sell it in a non-banned configuration. In the case of a flash hider, some simply take it off and point you to thread protectors on Amazon. In all cases, they need to make it legal before the transfer.

So, if an FFL has a SA M1A Scout, and re-barrels it to 6.5, it is no longer a banned weapon upon transfer. Of course if you own it, the receiver is already grandfathered, you can do as you please.

M1A is banned by name. The listing does NOT list caliber.

The M65 being sold is not an M1A.

Also, a copy is a rifle that can exchange any one part with the same part on a banned rifle and still function. So changing the carrel (one part) means the new rifle is a copy of a banned rifle, thus baned.

If that were really true, then all hbar ARs would fail that test.

The Colt Hbar is allowed by name, not construcion.

All this ban talk is the bane of my existence. ;)

When is an M1A not an M1A? When its 6.5 Creedmoor.

"Springfield Armory M1A Loaded-6.5 Creedmoor" "Not Banned"

The HBAR is a special case, of a specific model of a banned firearm being exempted.
