I met a volunteer electrician for the John Brown this morning while pumping gas. He had a MD plate with the John Brown stuff on it and a shirt and hat. We talked for a good bit and he told me a lot of cool stuff about it, and the cruise, which I now look forward to taking next spring per his recommendation.

Had I not seen this thread yesterday, it probably would have not even registered to me to start a conversation. One in which I got to thank another Veteran.

So...thanks for this thread. Another piece to add to my WWII "study".

Have never done a cruise on the Brown...need
to do so. Important to support these old
    treasures...in that vein, I
would also commend to you all
a visit to the USS Olympia in Philly...Dewey’s
flag ship at the Battle of Manila and part of
    The Great White Fleet.

The Olympia is in financial trouble big time and Philly won't (can't) help. If it finally sinks, the Coast Guard may have to make a determination of it being a Hazard to Navigation and take it away. :sad20:
