Do I need a C&R to purchase an East German Makarov built in 1963, or is there any way to transfer it without a C&R ? I couldn't find it on the registry.
Assuming you're a Maryland resident. No C&R required for in state purchases of a C&R handgun. No HQL required for handguns over 50 yrs of age or that have C&R status.
There is background check that the FFL will help you with. They typically will have a computer set up in the store for these, and will get you in the State Police portal where you enter personal information and answer questions for an online 77R application.
After 7 days, if all is clear, you'll get an email in the morning from the State Police that it's ok to go to the FFL to pick up your pistol. They will say that you're "not disapproved".
