Why I Bring My Gun to School

Still, I regularly encounter liberals who fear irresponsible gun use and think that college kids (even if they are 21) can’t be trusted with firearms. I understand that fear is a powerful motivator on both sides of this issue. But I fiercely resent being told that I can’t protect myself according to my rights as an American.

Female gun ownership isn’t a matter of political affiliation. I’ve met women across the political spectrum who own guns for self-defense or for shooting recreationally. In particular, black women have become a lot more interested in gun ownership and shooting classes.

Not sure how this slipped through. The regular editors must be on vacation.

I can only imagine how much pain printing this caused them.

Don't tell me that the Failing New York Times has stooped to publishing a differing opinion. Either you're right about the editors being on vaca, or they figure that enough of their diehard Leftist readers are that they can take the opportunity to establish some street cred with the unwashed, without pissing off all of their regulars.

They'll be able point to this piece over and over to prove objectivity.

Perhaps... until you look at the comments and click the "NYT Favorites" tab. Which direction do you suppose they lean in?

My God, some NYT readers are uninformed.

I'm sorry that you live in a world that you perceive as so dangerous and that you feel you need to illusion of safety provided by a gun.

Clearly Mr/Mrs/Ms Jencks hasn't been mugged yet.

Yet another argument for guns that relies on emotions, not facts. You are not, statistically, safer with a gun. The other people on your campus are, statistically, far less safe because you (and others) are allowed guns. I understand that you like guns. I understand that you enjoy possessing guns. But you must understand that the law cannot make exceptions. Guns pose an embarrassing public safety risk, exacerbated by concealed carry. Your argument lacks rigor. The Texas law in question is a travesty, and should be overturned as soon as possible.

Frothing at the mouth while typing, no doubt.

I'm gonna stop reading these idiots' comments ... it's making my brain hurt.

Did Statistical Susannah in Chicago cite any statistics and their source to support her argument?

I wonder whether she really thinks her Chicago gun laws keep her safer than people who live in, say, Texas or Wyoming?

    Stuck in MoCo ...
I can't stand to read the comments citing public safety, "emotional arguments" and "statistics show you're less safe with a gun" as the reason to further abridge our Constitutional RKBA.

Of course not. Rational behavior has no place in the middle of an emotional tirade.

You, sir, are racist and xenophobic for questioning the veracity of her statements!

Thank you for that astute and most p.c. observation! :lol2:
