Looking for a hand guard for an 11.5” upper with suppressor. In measuring, a 12” length brings it just shy of the side ports on my compensator if I were to run it without the suppressor. An 11” creates a 1/2” gap between the front of the rail and the suppressor. Any concerns with the gas ports being so close to the HG? Suppressor is 1.5” dia. so if I go with a 12” it needs to fit into the HG (1/2”).
    Thanks

I'd go with the 11", on a short barrel I'd be more concerned with gas/flame etching the hand-guard.

Thanks Brad, when taking measurements should I start at the edge of the upper receiver? Not sure if handguards fit tight up against it or if there is a small gap. Reason I ask is, I measure 11 3/8” from can to upper. So by going with an 11” I would end up with a 3/8” or so gap. Not what I wanted but finding an 11 1/2” that accepts a 1.5” can will be difficult.

Can vary by manufacturer, but a good portion of rails are going to butt up against the leading edge of the upper - so I'd say you should be fine taking your measurement from there.

What style of rail are you interested in? That can help narrow down the field.

Samson, Seekins, and Odin have rails with an ID of 1.6", so you have some starting options.

*Yankee Hill and Diamondhead should also clear the can.

The rail I chose for my 11.5" SBR was an American Defense Manufacturing 10.75" (https://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/view/product/898/)

Fits as close as possible to the end to not interfere with the most muzzle devices/ silencers. At the time it seemed to be the only one designed specifically for an 11.5" barrel
