This sounds a lot like your striker spring is overcoming the recoil spring. If you want to test this theory out, hold back the trigger hard while you slowly let the slide try to reset, especially not from full distance.

That’s what is happening. It’ll close sometimes. Others I have to shake it a tiny bit to get it to close the rest of the way. Heavier recoil spring needed?

Maybe. But, honestly, if you're running all factory springs, it shouldn't be happening. I can run a reduced-weight recoil spring and still not have this problem... it only turns into an issue when I'm all the way down to 13lbs.

Looking closer, it seems to be when the slide safety is hitting the trigger bar, that is when it is “hanging up”. If the trigger isn’t pulled it rides over it easily. If the trigger is pulled it meets more resistance and has a hard time closing. I worked it with a little 220 and 400 grit sand paper to smooth it a little (like a very light polish, no grinding) and swapped in a Wolff guide rod and 18# spring (I also got a 17#). It’ll close without doing anything now, but it still shows hesitation if I have my finger hard on the trigger. With the OE 16# spring and guide rod I’d have to shake the pistol slightly for it to snap closed if held vertically, with trigger pulled and letting the slide loose when it was 90% closed.

So I am hoping with everything I’ve done it’ll finally run flawlessly. I also have a 17# spring. My intention is to try at least a box or two at my next range trip and see how it functions. If it is flawless, I may swap in the 17# spring and repeat and see if it runs well. I’d rather a low spring rate, so long as it is feeding properly.

I have done 2 of the G17s and polished the parts before installing them. I like shiny things:) Had some initial problems with FTF on the first because the recoil spring was catching in the channel and needed some more material removed. They both run perfectly, and will eat anything I feed them. The polishing makes things much smoother and eliminates the need for things to "break-in". You might just need to shoot it some more. Hope you got it worked out.

Yeah, fingers crossed. It has a fair number of rounds through it at this point, at least 500. That said, I've been doing some honing here, a little polishing there, a bit of grinding/filing. Now with the slightly heavier recoil spring and a heavier guide rod, that'll hopefully get it running 100% now. It has been so close for awhile.

I am torn on if I want another 17 80%, or a 19 80%. I don't see a lot of reason to own two of the same, but it would mean I could try a cleaner and better build to see how it runs. I guess it depends on how cheap I could get one (maybe some awesome sale).

    Really I want a 17, a 19, a 20 and a 26. Eventually.

I built a 17 and 19, I enjoy just building them. They'll have the 20/21 frames out soon, but I think parts are still scarce. I do want to build a 26 and 43 as well. I'm not sure if I want to try the PF940CL yet or not, it visually looks a bit goofy.

I did a second G17 mainly to have two with a 17 round capacity and the improved grip on the version 2 cemented the deal. I have done a major grip reduction on the version 1.5 because I could not stand the way it felt when shooting it. I removed all of the protrusions and narrowed the top a little, and it made a vast improvement in the way it feels when shooting.
Not trusting myself to do a stippling job because of poor eyesight and a shaky hand, I took a piece of bicycle inner tube and trimmed it to fit the grip. I was surprised at how well it works.
Think I will post some pictures in the Polymer80 Porn thread.

I've now built 11 of these..it needs a good break in...get a nice snack, sit on your couch with it and the pistol, turn on the TV and start racking the slide...300-400 times should work...

At this point I’ve probably racked it 500-1000 times, plus well over 500 rounds down the tube.

How does the version 2 grip frame differ from the previous versions?

The grip looks much more like a OEM Glock lower. The version 1.5 was very square on the corners and had fins on the rear that just did not treat my hand right. They had to come off.

These pictures are before and after on the version 1.5.

That looks a lesser raked trip angle than many Glocks I have seen.

I can only compare it to the version 2 since I do not own any "real" Glocks. When I hold them next to each other, the angles are identical. I compared the widths as well and was pleased to find that they are very close after I whittled on it. If I hold one in each hand(like in GTA San Andreas) they feel the same which was the goal.

I’ve got a ready whatever 19 coming. The ones with the clean grip where you have to stipple it yourself. Project for next year (or later). AR-10 and SKS are ahead of it in line.
