Picked up a 1949 Model 81 in .35 Rem today. Almost mint condition. Came from an Upstate New York consignment shop and I had a chance to talk to the previous owner. The story goes that the original owner bought it, put it away, got sick and died without ever having shot it. Years go by, widow dies, estate being liquidated and the guy I bought it from picked it up. He said he shot about 10 rounds through it and put it away as well. If that’s the case in 72 years, it’s only had 10 rounds through it since it was new. Bluing is 99.9%, stock is exceptional with minimal handling and safe hickeys. The seller also let me have 6 boxes of Remington 200 grain soft-core for $20 a box - said he didn’t need it anymore.

    Gorgeous piece

    Great pick up.
    Beautiful rifles!!!!

I am so effing jealous LOL. Beautiful rifles. Thanks for the pics

Thanks guys. I appreciate it - I'm pretty happy with this find.

The older I get the more AR's and Glocks bore me.....I have them for home protection and in case Kamal says I can't buy them anymore but I am finding these older guns a lot more interesting these days.

I am now on the lookout for a pre-1934 Remington Model 11 12 gauge riot gun.

    You dog. :)

Congratulations. That is one beautiful model 81 and the providence is fantastic. 10 rounds in 70+ years. WOW, I don't think I own any gun with that few rounds through it.

    Very nice find, indeed!

    That’s sexy as hell

    good looking rifles

    Thanks guys.

Found a couple pics of 8's in real life and in the movies:

Pentiss Oakley with the Model 8 he used to kill Clyde Barrow

Kevin Costner playing Frank Hamer in Highwayman

Congrats on the find, doubt it could be upgraded. Really clean 8s and 81s are getting expensive as vintage autoloaders are finally being appreciated.
Frank Hamer was a badass, as close to a Hollywood larger-than-life character as you'll find in real life. They don't make 'em like him anymore.

    Thank you.

Frank Hamer's biography is what got me started looking at 8/8's. Good book if you like reading.
