I googled for this but nothing answered my exact question. Now that we are doing the 77R on line and the MSP are sending the Not disapproved to us, how long does it take to get back to you?

Submitted e-request to MSP on 4/27 (on site at FDK Barracks); approval came in an email on 5/4. So seven days, including the weekend.

I was told last Monday that my email from MSP would not come until Tuesday morning. Apparently MSP doesn't include Sunday if it's the last day of the waiting period.

Looks like I will find out for sure tomorrow morning.

My buddy filled one out the sat before last. He got the email yesterday and went and picked it up. So sat to sat. It depends on when the dealer does his part.

I usually fill out paperwork with the dealer on Saturday, and get the OK email from MSP the next Saturday morning.

Ok, I do the 77R at home but I finish at the dealer and pay the $10 at the dealer. So If I did the paperwork on Thursday the 14th, I can expect the email from MSP on Thursday the 21st. Hopefully they will send it early as I like to leave at 0730 when I go to Gymratz as the traffic both ways is better.

I heard the same thing when I submitted my paperwork for a P-365 last Monday. Fingers are crossed for both of us, as well as everyone else who is in the same boat... you know, the boat from which we will all lose our firearms in a tragic boating accident in the middle of the bay? :lol2:

I’m hoping in another hour or so I get my Not Disapproved email as well.

ND email comes at 5:59 am, of the day you may pick it up. If you look carefully at the finalized application online you will see that its completed earlier, as demonstrated by he NICS date and NICS number on the top left of the application - usually a few days before the ND goes out.

And yes, Sundays/Holidays do not count ... so if you fill it out on a Monday you cannot pick up to Tuesday following (or Wednesday if the following Monday was a legal holiday).

not disapproved? that's the opposite of approved, opposite, so approved? maryland has some crazy ways

It's their way of officially saying that they could find no reason to deny your application.

If they actually listed the application as "approved", that would open them to liability issues should something unfortunate happen.

Maryland law states 7 day waiting period. When we were doing paper forms, the whole Sunday or holiday thing could not really be enforced. With the portal, it can be enforced and it is. If your 7th falls on a Sunday, that does not count as being the 7th day. If your 7th day falls on a holiday, then that doesn’t count as your 7th day.

Example: the dealer submits the serial number on the Monday before Memorial Day or Labor Day. Your 7th day would be the Sunday before those holidays- does not count. The holiday would now be your 7th day - does not count. Tuesday is now your 7th day, so Wednesday is your 8th day - or day of transfer.

As far as “not disapproved” goes, MD says “if the application is not disapproved by the MSP, the applicant may retrieve the handgun on the 8th day.” “Not disapproved” comes from the law as written, not a liability issue as so many tend to believe. The licensing division of MSP is not trying to keep you from getting handguns. They enforce the laws as interpreted by the attorney general - currently Brian Frosh. When he “interprets” a law incorrectly, MSP enforces the law incorrectly. I’m sure loads of people will hammer me for that comment, but sometimes the truth is not “everybody is out to take away my rights”.
