I never gave them much thought, but recently looking around the web for using magnum SPP in 357sig (I do use MSPP in 357sig frequently) I came across a few articles about Remington 1-1/2 SPP warnings that I never noticed before:

    https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2018/5/15/remington-1-pistol-primers/

I have a few thousand Rem 1-1/2 that I purchased for 9mm, which the article mentions is the anomaly since 40sw and 9mm are rated for the same SAAMI max pressure. Has anyone had success or failure using 1-1/2 SPPs in moderate 9mm loads? (124gr plated, 4.0gr Titegroup)

I've never once used a Remington primer. No particular reason for that, other than I started and pretty much stuck with other brands.

To me, these results reinforce a theme that makes me even more inclined to want to follow load data recommendations. Lots of primer switching going on right now, and moreso in the current climate. Lots of OAL discussion too. Either and both of these things separately can mean a big difference in pressure. Combined, likely a whole new set of differences.

How much difference? Well, we can start low and work our way up.
And we can observe and measure. But we typically can't know what different combinations are truly yielding in our own equipment, much less somebody else's.

If Remington is making this statement, you can rest assured there's a damn good reason for it. They have the testing capability, and can test many different scenarios, such that they CAN know. That's their job.

MY job I would suggest, is to pay attention.
