    Anyone reload Herters brass?

I bought a bunch of 9MM Herters ammo and saved the cases, even reprimed them.

Then I read somewhere that the cases are cheap and not safe to reload.

Then I read somewhere the the cases are made by Norma.

Then I read somewhere that cases may be made by S&B.

I can understand where Herters may buy their cases from different manufacturers but I assume they would all be made to Herters spec.

So has anyone reloaded Herters cases? Any problems? I have a few hundred and hate not being able to use them.

The only cases I've ever had an issue with, for any caliber, are PMP in 223. Everything else - brass/boxer primed, goes bang just fine.

Never used them. Only brass I've had issue with was winchester 22 Hornet. a lot of cracked necks, even after annealing. Been using a lot of Prvi Partisan lately and so far its been really good stuff

have reloaded a lot of their 9mm in mixed lots and even some 308. Its not for match use (lapua all the way) so I consider it perfectly acceptable for plinking rounds.

Thanks everyone for the replies, the cases looked fine but after reading somewhere that they weren't safe to reload, I thought it was good idea to ask the experts. I reloaded 200 rounds yesterday, will probably take them to the range next weekend and see how they do.

Herter's used to be THE place to mail order all sorts of shooting things. Including guns before GCA 68.

My Crossman M1 Carbine BB rifle came from them.

My Grandfather taught me to reload..All dies and presses were purchased from Herter's.

I tried to search for herters.com and it goes to Cabela's web page. I guess Cabela's owns Herters now?

In 1937 Herter took his father's dry goods store and turned it into a mail order outdoor goods business, selling hunting and fishing items through a catalog. He later opened retail outlet stores, which pioneered the style of outdoor goods stores now operated by Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops. The company went bankrupt in 1981.

I guess they bought the name, since they sell the ammo under that name.

I used to LOVE looking through their catalog.

Yes, Cabela's originally bought the Herters brand name and brought it back under their umbrella. Now since BP bought Cabela's it's technically a BP brand I guess. In addition to ammo they market Herters clothing. Herters (the real original Herters) is still known far and wide by cold area duck hunters for their excellent decoys. They tend to ride better and ice up less. Even old beat up ones are going to cost you some money. I have some original Herters knives from my grandfather and my dad has an original catalog from the 60s at his house. It was the Cabela's before Cabela's.

Herters was one of the few outdoors places before BassPro, Dick's, Sportsmans Wharehouse etc. In those days, Cabelas had one store in Nebraska and sold through catalogs as did Herters. Gander Mountain also had a catalog company selling guns and outdoor stuff from 1960 until they sold the company in 1984. I used to wait for the mailman the first of every month as that is when my Herters, Cablelas and Gander mountain catalogs showed up.

Today, companies sell their names so names mean nothing. What a shame. :sad20:
