And for the record, I'm not advocating this.

I carried illegally in October of 2011 when the tornado devastated P G County.

My neighborhood looked like a war zone and anytime I left the house, I carried, though only within walking distance of erubyville (since the roads were blocked by many, many downed trees).

If you're talking over a lifetime and just one time or more I'd bet it's a lot higher than that.

As well, if the "charged" party does no time, but is found guilty of the charge as applied, they then become PROHIBITED PERSONS.

I had a four hour talk with a city prosecutor today, folks, buckle your seat belts.
I suppise I sit somewhere in the middle on this. Do you:

(1) defend yourself and your family, get tried by a jury that (statistically) has no idea about guns and believes you're the bad guy for owning one, then do several years in prison and pay a hefty fine, OR

(2) die in the street and leave your wife/children to whatever thugs killed you (or to deal with the loss of you).

You know what happens if you get caught with a gun. You can imagine what happens if you get caught without one. Depending on your lifestyle, one may be statistically more likely than another (i.e. do you spend more time in a nice area and see police more than criminals, or in the bad parts of Baltimore where criminals are more common than cops).

At the end of the day, it's up to each individual to make decisions for themselves - but they should know the risks involved either way.

Well, we can always open carry long guns. The ostentatious display should keep the criminals away...
