Posted this of at GB but I wanted to post here as well.

Here is the Tula 1937 НП and USSR marked mosin I picked up. It was not advertised as such. It has varnish on it and I think a Spanish made hand guard. There doesn't seem to be many of these reported and no one knows what the НП means for sure.

I'm looking at the USSR mark on the sight and figure it's got to be an early Spanish import. You usually see the USSR mark on the receiver, don't think I've ever seen it on the sight. These are getting harder to find, don't SCW Mosins as much as I used to. Good find! The НП mark info I'll leave to the MN experts to conjecture over. Suffice to say it's uncommon for sure.

When did they start marking _anything_ on a Mosin with Latin letters? Taking about the faded "USSR' stamp. Or is that an import mark? Or did Spaniards do this?

Import mark. Pre 68 imports you had to mark the country of manuf. I've seen SMLE's marked "England" for example.
Most 91/30 Spanish imports were marked "Made in USSR". Though there are some marked URRS :o. I'll bet if you squinted your eyes and looked real hard you'd see the "Made In" preceding the more visible "USSR" on Metalman3006's example. Just very lightly struck.
