Neither of my factory mags ever ran well. I played with the feed lips until the cows came home and it made very little difference.

Could it be the gun? Did your replace the springs? I have a P-38 and fooled with the magazines forever, then I replaced the springs with a Wolff kit and it runs flawlessly.

I didn’t replace the springs so I don’t know if that would’ve made a difference. It would periodically fail to feed, getting hung up mostly on the feed ramp. Doesn’t sound like a spring issue to me but who knows. I usually replace springs on all of my C or R pistols but I guess I just didn’t like that one enough to mess with it.

Blowback pistols are sensitive to recoil spring issues. Feeding problems develop when the spring weakens and the slide speeds up.

Another pistol that people swore that their mags were bad was (maybe still is) the Ruger Mk 1 series. When the recoil spring started to weaken, people would get all sorts of feeding problems. Back in the seventies and eighties, I "fixed" many Rugers by dropping in a recoil spring assembly in them.

Did you go with springs rated the same as original, or higher/lower resistance? Curious, cuz I might try this. Did with my P64s, put the lower weight springs in, and they're great fun now.

I went with the original weight. The gun went from jam-o-matic to Uber reliable.

Mag springs? Cz82s shouldn’t be all that old and I don’t know their magazine geometry (and hell, they are rimless), but I know my Cz-50 and from what I have read most of them have an issue where the rounds nose dive as they are feed out of the magazine. It is worse with a weak spring (I assume because a weak spring allows the front of the follower to dip). With FMJ this isn’t an issue unless the spring is really worn out, but shorter COAL JHP will dip enough that the case mouth hits the front of the mag before the nose contacts the feed ramp and pushes the cartridge up.

Are you sure they were real CZ mags? If they have a weld at the front, they're not factory mags. The feed lips should not be easily bendable on the genuine mags.

If they are genuine mags, the feeding issue could be caused by the feed ramps. I've seen a few CZ82s that ran perfectly after having their feed ramps polished.

With my CZ82, I've not had any feeding issues with genuine CZ mags using Russian FMJs and Hornady XTPs.

In general they're a little less nicked up than mine, but yeah, in a world where import billboards make me crazy, the white steel glowing through the black enamel really snaps my cap. At least it looks like they're offering them with the slimmed-down holster rather than the pancake man-purse holster that usually comes with the CZ-82.

Isn't that about double the price of just a few years ago?
I sold one for around $425 (iirc) a couple years back. The MD market may be skewed though, with demand coming from those that don't have an HQL and see the CZ82 as a nice option (that doesn't require one, or even a C&R in state of course).

Otherwise, one can get a more modern CZ P10c from IPs here for under $450.
