    Welcome to the forum!

For ranges, it depends on how far you want to drive for what length range. The longer ranges in the area are Delmarva Sporting Clays (500 yards), Quantico (1000 yards), Peacemaker (1000 yards), Mifflin County Sportsman Association (1000 yards). I also had found a range in the Elizabethtown area that was 600 yards but am blanking on the name.

A bit more information is located on this thread too.

can't remember the place or town, but about 1/2 hr west of bmore not too far on the north side of 70 is an issac walton that goes to 300 yds.

on the 23rd, peacemaker is having a long range challenge. it's just a fun, belly/prone match, great opportunity to get dope for your gun. i'm sure a solid 2 hours from bmore, maybe more, but a very nice facility. the range where they hold this goes out to 1200yds but usually the match goes from 200 to 800-1000yds.

At the Mt. Airy chapter of Isaac Walton League we go out to 300 yards.

    PM me for details.

Delmarva is good for 500 yards. They've got gongs at 200, 300, and 500. I shot my Sharps out there recently.

The hang up with Fort Meade is that, being
an active Army base, you can't just show up and shoot. You have to jump through hoops. Namely:
    1) you have to join one of a couple of clubs who are allowed access on pre-scheduled days (average one Saturday per month).

    2) the whole shooting group has to meet up at a designated time and location, be escorted to the range together, shoot the designated length of time, and leave together. You can't just come and go on your own, even on the designated day.

    3) last, you can only shoot on the designated range. Most are only 50 yards, one to 300, and one to 600. Most club schedules I've seen only have access to one of the long ranges once or twice per year.

So, Meade is in an ideal location if you're near Bmore, but it's not really a great arrangement unless you plan for it.

Although it’s a bit of a drive I am still a member of Frontline Defense in Warrenton, NC. They have a great range for all weapon systems and a 1000 yard range if you are a member. A nonmember can use the 500 yard range and below on the weekends. It’s about a 4 Hour 20 minute drive from Pasadena. I usually leave here at 6am and get there around 1030am and shoot until 6pm and then drive home.

Just read this on the bangsteel site.

“For the sake of our steel targets, I do discourage the use of magnum cartridges for the school. The lower powered magnums such as the 7mm Remington Magnum and the 300 Win Mag as well as the "short mags" or WSM's as they're sometimes called are normally okay. But the Remington Ultra Magnums, higher powered Weatherby magnums, and the .338 Lapua Magnums are not suitable for the course.”

    Bang Steel is great.

I have been done shooting 3 times and always had a good time and learned a lot.

Hmm, got any slots open in your Sept trip??? :D
