When this one popped up for sale I just had to jump on it as I’ve always been fascinated with battle damaged bring-back pieces. I’ve seen lots of sellers out there claiming their beater rifle with a cracked stock is “battle damaged”, but I think this one is pretty solid. Purchased it from a collector I trust who in turn purchased it many years ago from the widow of a veteran. According to the woman her husband had brought it back from Okinawa. No documentation unfortunately so it’s just a verbal story, but a very cool rifle nonetheless.

It’s a mummed and matching Kokura Arsenal 23rd series with original rubberized canvas sling. Damage looks pretty clearly to be a bullet that hit on the left side of the gun, piercing the sling and stock and taking a nice chunk of wood with it upon exit. The hole in the sling lines up perfectly with the hole in the stock. Damaged wood shows proper aging and dust collection. It’s nice and dusty and untouched just like I like them!

That's awesome, I like old guns that tell a story. I just recently rebuilt a ww2 Lee-Enfield that I got from a friend for $40 and it has some scars from use just how I like them.

Cool. The original slings are worth something in their own right. A "matching" sling with bullet hole... wow.

Real nice. The fact that the mum is intact indicates it's a battlefield pick up.

Correct...if the military had sent it back post-war the mum would have been ground off. Pretty much all Arisakas that were GI/Marine bring backs had the mum intact. It definitely adds value plus what appears genuine battle use and damage adds to the "kewl" factor.

    Very cool, KH!!

My SVT38 has a high-speed projectile hole through the stock. Looks like a bullet hole, but can’t be sure. If someone was shouldering that rifle when it zipped through, it certainly ruined their day.

Congrats again on the nice grab

Nice to see it wasn't touched after coming to its new home in the US. The rubberized canvas sling is uber cool. Nice snag!
I've got a T99 Long with stock damage from Lord knows what. Not as obvious as yours!
