Surely you jest. We're talking about the DemocRATs who put the MCP up to this.

And don't call me Shirley

The act of writing the letter is an admission.

Here again, we need no admission...we've got video...the truth.

Truth trumps all. Video is irrevocable truth.

    Truth drives accountability.

Given the circumstances and the truth as depicted by video, they need to abandon their PR tack. Man up. Own it. The longer they try to avoid and demur and deny and obfuscate, the uglier it is in court. That it's headed to court is not in doubt.

    Neither is the outcome.

I have grown weary over the years of not just hearing a continuous stream of non-apology apologies from wrongdoers, but also grown frustrated by the general willingness of people on the receiving end to just accept them. Call them out for their shortcomings. Do not become complacent and allow the bar to be continually lowered. Push, push, push until true accountability is achieved.

I just read an article and found an interesting quote:

"When the government views the citizen as the servant, we get weaponized law enforcement agencies to be used against us, and law-breaking agency bureaucrats and politicians who see our democracy as an inconvenience to be subverted."
Article from front page Fox News "The sins of a bloated, unaccountable government"

This is more true than anyone is willing to admit. Just look at how militarized our law enforcement is today. The government only knows force and many in the law enforcement community think there is a literal war going on. I imagine if the 2 gentleman were to resist their unlawful arrest, they would have been met with overwhelming force regardless if they were right or wrong.

If you would like to be able to record this Monday night's activities without anyone knowing(the CPD) there is an application called Spy Cam HD that is available for free at Google Play and works wonderfully on my Android phone.

To record, simply turn on the app and place your phone in your shirt or jacket pocket with the camera lens free to collect the data. It will record video and audio and works great as a dash cam in your car, too.

Just a thought to insure that we cover the area with our own surveillance to avoid any misinterpretation of events!

For those that plan to do this, I would suggest that your phone be fully charged when you arrive in Annapolis.

You don't think the six marked MCP police cars, officers, and a canine unit was "overwhelming"? to arrest two non-violent individuals engaged in nothing more than legal activities?

And if you're having any doubts about the scale of MCP's response, consider that the most egregious of the bogus formal charges were "obstructing the sidewalk" and "trespassing on public property."

MD's law around two party consent could be in play, but it's at a public event, so probably not. Considering that the MCP was willing to infringe on 1A, they would welcome an opportunity to push this too. Better to keep the cameras in the open. When they see the camera, they are consenting ...

    Field-expedient body-mount for camera

For folks concerned about having video of the upcoming Monday's activities, here's a field-expedient method of mounting a camera to a hyu-mohn meatbag. This is the dash cam out of my car, and I picked up a 5000mAh "power pack" battery from Microcenter in Rockville to provide electricity. Best Buy carries them, too. The tie-down straps were pinched from the trunk of my car, and are readily available at any sporting goods store in the camping supplies section. Or you can use string or shoelaces and just make loops to go over your arms.

A little duct-tape reinforcement is probably warranted to keep things from falling apart too easily. Adapting for a cell phone by making a "pocket" should be easy to do, too.

If they stick with the current "story" that the police officers did this with no "orders" then every officer involved, six cars worth plus supervisors, should be summarily dismissed for cause and loose all their benefits including having pensions forfeited. However, if as we suspect they were coerced by people in power either elected or appointed, then if the officers involved give full and honest disclosure and testify as to what happened then disciplinary actions with appropriate retraining would be in order. The Maryland Legislature MUST take steps to insure this type of politically motivated police abuse can never happen again in the "FREE STATE"! There should be a mechanism for any public employee to report coercion without fear of retaliation.

Is it just coincidence that "The Constitution of the State of Maryland, 1864" Resides in Volume 666 in the Maryland State Archives?

Don’t forget that although this is a first amendment issue, the 2nd is our original point. I suggest a sign like “2nd Amendment-Nullified
    1st Amendment - TBD”

Somehow work the 2A into the message.
Wish I could join you, but I escaped the PRMD.

Isn’t it true that being in public, on public property is consent! Look at all the news videos. I’ve been filmed a number of times and don’t recall EVER signing a consent form.

2 party consent only applies when you have an expectation of privacy. A public square by definition does not meet this requirement. Film away.

So I was out of of town and missed the party. What happened out there was way out of line and I bet the staffer at the Ramirez meet and great had something to do with it.
Im going to park over at Graul's and hump it down to the sidewalk by 7:00. What they did to them boys was wrong but that's low hanging fruit. The power is in the viral alignment ignited by the act alone and they know it.
Been shackled more than a few times doing the wrong thing so not really worried about that, worse thing is they may rough you up a little bit in the paddy wagon or when your handcuffed to the bench.
Maybe someone who's connected could find out if the commissioner will be available nearby or on site for processing to determine how many arrests they plan to make.
If anybody wants a ride from the mid-shore area let me know you can ride with me Ill pick you up.

Wish in one hand. Spit in the other.

I can tell you which one will fill first.

As much as I personally and professionally disdain SGT Pope's egregious actions, I'll bet next month's pay he didn't cook that course of action up all on his own. I've been wrong before and will be again but my read of his actions and reactions on video suggest he was under specific tasking. (None of which reduces his culpability for what he did...STUPID AND ILLEGAL in the highest order.)

Just an update, as of this morning, on who responded to my email regarding this:

Edward R. Reilly - no response
Boyd K Rutherford - Your email was received
Michael E. Malone - no response
    Tony McConkey - no response

Sid Saab - Personal response email containing Chief Wilson's email. Thumbs up to Mr. Saab for the response. It's not his fault Wilson's letter is disingenuous.

I will email these reps again Monday requesting who gave the "arrest" order.

    See you Monday, Fred

Thank you for your email. After I learned of the arrests of Kevin and Jeff, I spoke to House Minority Leader Nic Kipke regarding the situation . I am now happy to learn that the charges have been dropped. I hope to see my 2A friends Monday.

After pressure, charges were dropped today on the arrests from Monday night, though they never should have happened.

On Tuesday, I had contacted both the Capitol Police and the State Police asking for an official inquiry into the event. Below is the statement I rec’d from Chief Wilson of the Capitol Police whose officers made the arrests:

    Delegate Saab,

The Maryland Capitol Police are responsible for providing a safe working environment for state employees and visitors that frequent state properties, and to secure buildings that are located on state property.

The Maryland Capitol Police responded to a demonstration occurring without a permit, within the public right away of the sidewalk, at the intersection of Bladen Street and College Avenue. Out of a concern for public safety, and in an abundance of caution due to two pedestrians being being stuck by vehicles in the last year, and nearly a half dozen reported pedestrians complaints concerning vehicle failing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, the demonstrating group was asked to relocate to Lawyers Mall

After three (3) request to move their location to allow for pedestrians to freely use the sidewalk, crosswalks and to reduce conditions for distracted vehicle operators approaching the intersection, two individuals declined and were subsequently arrested for Criminal Law Article 10-201 Disorderly Conduct, Disturbance or the Public Peace, Nuisances.

Please call or email if you have any further questions. Our public information officer is Nick Cavey and he can also be reached in his Baltimore office at 410-767-4958.

But you have to wonder why there hasn’t been a problem before. I know the two men arrested and hold them in high regard, and there has not been a problem with members being there over the years.

Thank you for contacting me about this –
    Sincerely,

    Delegate Sid Saab

I haven't heard back yet from Reilly or McConkey.

Chief Wilson began his more than 30 years in law enforcement and security with the Maryland State Police. In September 2011, he was appointed Chief of Police for the Department of General Services, Maryland Capitol Police, which is the primary safety and protection service for state employees and visitors at state buildings.

The agency provides law enforcement and security services for over 30 state buildings, 10 parking garages and 16 surface parking lots. This includes the Annapolis and Baltimore office complexes. In addition, the agency is responsible for operating one of the largest state identification card programs in Maryland. During the 90-day legislative session, MCP reviews, approves and has a presence at rallies and demonstrations that occur in Annapolis.

Prior to assuming leadership of the Maryland Capitol Police, Chief Wilson was a Maryland State Police sergeant and performed many different job functions statewide during his 23-year tenure. He also served in management and leadership roles, including with the Governor’s Executive Protection details and as Commander of the Legislative Security Section and State Senate Sergeant at Arms.

Before his career in Maryland law enforcement, the Chief served four years in the United States Air Force as a military police officer and security specialist. He was awarded the “Air Force Achievement Medal” for meritorious service as well as the “Air Force Good Conduct Medal.” Following his honorable discharge in 1988, he was accepted into the Maryland State Police Academy.

Chief Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Johns Hopkins University. He also received a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Hopkins.
Looks like the Chief could have afforded a little bit better education in the area of Constitutional law...
