Some Friday nights are a pain in the rear due to the bar life for young ones to up chuck their insides out since they deem not able to control their intake of drink or get froggy and want to fight..a few might make it to the holiday inn holding cell.As for the vehicle..parked every now and then in the back alley and public,I agree with the infraction book and should it pass..it should be a classed with basic classroom along with questions asked from the handbook.I got out of loss prevention years ago (safeway),most classroom instructors don't bother going into writing up arrest reports or going thru the process of arrest..guess they figure it's not worthwhile.I think it would be a good thing to see S.P.O's and S.G's lose their rights if they cannot do the right thing and MPD officer's discrestion to retain their card if it's not already done that way and their case reviewed by S.O.M.B. board.

I'm sure your already well aware but we have a unit who's job it is to ensure that SPO's are up up to date on the creds and if caught even a day after your creds expire with a service weapon there will be some trouble. I've never personally even checked an SPO's expiration date on their ID but I have read reports in our system of people getting arrested due to expired permits. I'm guessing that 20 yrs as an SPO you've figured out how to keep it current.

Yes on the S.O.M.B. unit,yes..thinks it's less than 60 dollars once the commission has expired to renew and not sure within how many months, once the commission has expired and just in uniform should something hit the fan and armed..would say deep doo.No reason to let the card expire..just do what needs to get done..done,range/class,drug screen, paperword, notary and a 54 dollar m.o. ..whole lot better than in the day before the Reeves Center and one stop was to some creaky old place that used to be a clothing store on 14th,n.w.,Buckleys,Consumer and Reg Affairs and to 300 Indy ave.No excuse to let it expire.

    Doesn't this man's case violate 18 USC § 926A - Interstate Transportation of Firearms?

Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

You always hear about people being arrested in New Jersey for having HP ammo, when they left PA and their destination is CT; how is that possible?

    Where did you "always hear?"

HP are legal i the home in NJ. I'm not sure FOPA provides protection for ammo, as it deals with firearms. But I think it's intent is to provide protection from more restrictive state laws while traveling, maybe to include ammo?

Maybe esqappellate can provide some legal guidance on this.

Fops covers interstate transport of firearms. Apart from requiring ammo to be separate it does not purport to provide a defense to the transport of ammo otherwise covered by state law.

    Quick fix for DC

The Federal Government should just turn DC back over to Maryland and Washington can become another county in Maryland.
