    Here's a question...

Are there any laws/restrictions against shooting a crossbow in a public park (in Baltimore county, for example), assuming it's otherwise safe to do so? (Far enough away from houses, adequate backstop, etc.)

There are no state laws on target archery, period.

However, Counties very frequently have regulations on where it is legal to discharge bows. In Baltimore County it is illegal to discharge a crossbow in any metropolitan district of the county (§ 17-2-101). All police stations are required to keep publically available maps designating which areas fall within the meaning of metropolitan district.

In addition, is a violation of county park rules to bring weapons into a public park.

As mpdc4511 stated, intent is the major word. If stopped, state that you are going to or from a target range. The moment you say self defense, it becomes "Possesion of a Prohibited Weapon, non-firearm".

Besides guns and the weapons listed in the PPA statute your fine. With that being said its all how you use the weapon if you get in an argument and pull it out of your trunk and aim it at the guy, well your in trouble. If your driving around and it's in your trunk your fine.

What about using it to defend ones self if someone breaks into your House/Apartment in D.C.

MPDC4511 is more current on this because I retired 15 yrs ago. Any item, knife, hammer, screwdriver, crowbar, archery bow is illegal if you state that the purpose is protection. PPW class B. If you state that it is a work tool, then it is kosher. Switchblades, gravity knives, blackjacks, and num-chucks are always illegal. PPW class A
