I don’t really want to divulge the exact nature of how I acquired this, but long story short, I came into contact with a gentleman who told me that he had an “old Italian rifle and a bunch of 30-06 ammo”. He said he’d gotten it a while ago from his deceased father-in-law, and being a usual MoCo Liberal, wanted to turn it into police to be destroyed because he didn’t want a firearm in the house.
Well...for those here who know me, being the crafty guy that I am, I offered to take it off his hands. He happily told me to come pick it up, which I did. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since he didn’t seem to know anything about guns.
I went and picked it up and was pleasantly surprised to be given an un-dicked with, all matching Lee-Enfield No. 5 Mk. I Jungle Carbine! To top it all off, he even gave me 160 rounds of .303 British ammo, and a never used Hoppes Cleaning Kit from the 1950/60’s.
The finish on the carbine is worn, but it’s in pretty good shape. Not sure what I’m going to do with the ammo, the Winchester and Remington might be collectable, so I probably won’t shoot it. The surplus stuff is Winchester from 1943, so I might just shoot that off.
Sad that the father-in-law’s rifle almost ended up in the scrap heap, but at least I saved it and it went to a good home!
Edit: this stupid mobile keeps uploading the pictures upside down... here’s an imgur link with the pictures.
