I enjoy making my own chit (so far just finished a pile of 80% lowers) and to continue down this road I'd love to legally manufacture my own suppressor. I have a YHM .22 can but it's a wretched bitch to clean and I'd like to make something like a Sparrow. I happened upon these "solvent traps" and I am extremely interested in building these into a legal can on a form 1. Thoughts on these from guys who have done stuff like this? They look extremely good to me and I'm ready to buy but I want to make sure I'm not missing any red flags. If the .22 can works out I'd def build some other calibers as well.

    AB,

Here is the $100 Form 1 suppressor thread. Tons of good information in it. Personally, I think I am going to go with SD Tactical and use its titanium tubes and then use a Wix filter for my long action suppressor.

Of course, the WIX might be a teeny bit too big for your project at 2 13/16" in diameter.

Weber in that $100 Form 1 suppressor thread is the man in the know when it comes to this stuff and HVAC. A couple of us were asking about the baffles from http://www.jmperformancefittings.com/

Weber said that under pressure, the baffles were having problems with the lips folding over. I did some further digging, and he was right. A shame too since those baffles look really nice.

Wish I knew whether Ronin was any good, and could answer your direct question. However, this is the first I have heard of them.

I am familiar with SD tactical and freeze plug cans, the Ronin "cans" appear to be on a level above. The Ronin product almost looks like a professionally manufactured can. The baffles look better than formed freeze plugs and are available in stainless or aluminum (or both which is what I am planning: first couple of baffles steel then switch to aluminum). I think Ronin looks awesome for a .22 can but it appears that the strongest tubes are 7075 aluminum which I don't think would cut it for a rifle caliber, but probably OK for 9mm.

    Those RoninPro kits look nice.

I'd have to look around and read a little more, but the pre-formed baffles look like a really nice option.

I am dipping my toes into suppressed waters so I will be watching this thread.
I too enjoy making my own stuff. Is Ronin's aluminum gonna be able to take 7.62/300blk/5.56 abuse though?

The baffles look a lot like the baffles offered by http://www.jmperformancefittings.com/

Guess it would come down to how they work under pressure. What are the baffles made out of off? What does the leading edge on them look like?

Look at the reviews for the JMPF baffles, especially the pics.

I know they are not Ronin, so I too will be very interested in what people are experiencing with Ronin. Like you, I would prefer some baffles that are not made from freeze plugs.Weber gave two recommendations there. One guy goes by poolshark and the other goes by venom.

    This is poolshark:

Looks like the schematic of the Ronin cups is different than JMPF and the Ronin cups are available in stainless steel too for $200. It will be interesting to see what people have experienced with them.

Of course, they are available for pre-order, so something tells me that there will be no real world experiences just yet.

I like them but I am feeling like the tubes are not sturdy enough for centerfire rifle rounds. I'll start with an SD tactical build and by the time that's complete maybe some reviews will be in Ronin builds.

Eta: just realized that ARF has a whole sub forum on building suppressors

    http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_6/55_Suppressors___Build_It_Yourself.html

I've read some of the Gen1 Ronin reviews and they seem to be fine. I am totally new to solvent traps but these Gen2 appear to be really nice. If the Gen1's which are in use, have been getting good reviews I don't see why these Gen2 should be any different.
