I know a guy who used his deceased wifes life insurance for a stamp collection that would make all of you drool. They were well off to begin with and he said this has always been on his mind so why not.

Computer people and/or engineers working for a DC area defense contractor can easily afford machine guns not long after graduating, especially when they don’t have a wife and kids.

I know guy with a blue collar union wage earner job in transportation and a bunch of months back be dropped cash on an MG42.

It came fully equipped with tripod, belts, and bolts and barrels to fire the original 8mm Mauser and .308 ammo. Sadly I didn't pick up a pallet of surplus 8mm before the election and covid hit...so it sits at his place hungry.

Some people just have money. I have friends that will pay cash for 100k cars and routinely blow 10s of thousands in Vegas over a weekend.

I have one friend that lost over 80k on one horse race. Didn't even bother him.

Another family friend said he has so much money he doesn't know what to do with it. Has two pilots on standby for his private jet.

    Simple question.

Are people taking loans out? Saving long term? Selling a ton of stuff to buy one thing?

I'm not talking a $5k Mac. I mean like a Thompson, M16, belt fed stuff. The class 3 guns that get really costly.

I know some people are just wealthy so it's less of a thing but folks in that position don't constitute all NFA owners. But for guys such as myself (I do decently, pay the bills with extra and live well below my means) that much money for something full auto seems unachievable in my life time.

You bought them back in the 1970's when a MA Deuce cost $8500. Without tripod but hell, they were surplus all over the place then. ;)

At least one local MG dealer suggested that full auto was oretty affordable, if you would consider trading off some of your handgun/shotgun/rifle inventory towards purchase.

Lotsa guys with safes packed full of goodies that they shoot only during a Blue Moon.

Personally, with limited options for shooting, scarce and expensive ammo, and knowing that if it was ever used for self-defense it would be prison time, no matter how good the shoot, I'm glad to give it a miss.

Of course all bets are off when I win 30 billion in a lottery. That puts me into an elevated category of citizenship, even above most politicians.

LOL I sold it 5 or 6 years ago to help pay for home renovations.

I’d probably do the same, I’ve shot my fair share but it’s not something I dream of owning. If I ran across a great deal, ie I could own it for a bit and break even I’d consider it.

A guy I worked with found a M2 carbine in his fathers attic. He wanted to take it to an indoor range. I talked him out of that.
It was a bring back with no paperwork. I instructed him on what to legally do with it. I never heard about it again once he found out the NFA laws and penalties.

If he took the giggle switch out of it, then it would be perfectly fine to have as then it would be a M1 carbine in function.
