This occured to me talking with a friend.

In Md , for a Landowner, not requiring a hunting lic to hunt in their own property, does he need Hunter Safety, if not otherwise not exempt ?

Correct (with a couple of exceptions as noted below)... from the MD Hunting Guide...

    "Hunter Education and
    Safety Requirement
To hunt or purchase a hunting license in
    Maryland, State law requires:
    • Presentation of a Certificate of
    Competency in Firearms and Hunting
Safety (required of all first time hunters), or
    • Certification that you held a hunting
license issued prior to July 1, 1977, or
    • Certification that you hunted on private
property prior to July 1, 1977, and were
legally exempt from purchasing a hunting
    license, or
    • Certification that you are purchasing a
nonresident license and will only hunt
    waterfowl.
    Exceptions: Compliance with the Hunter
Education and Safety Requirement does not
apply to those who are hunting only waterfowl
    with a Nonresident 3-day Waterfowl
and Small Game License (see below) and
those shooting under a Regulated Shooting
Area Hunting License who are not hunting
wild or free flying captive-raised mallards.
(See pg. 55, Regulated Shooting Area
    Hunting License)."

    Bumping this thread with questions..
I am a MD resident and my father owns land and I may hunt this winter. I took the Texas hunter safety course last year (to acquire my HQL)
Does that qualify or does Maryland require their own hunter safety cert?
Beyond that I should have the DNR ID # and a big game harvest sheet on me.
Basically have a copy of all three on me while hunting on the property?

Also can only assume the dates listed on the MD hunting season calender must be followed for hunting various game using either archery, firearm, muzzleloader as graphed on the DNR site?

Example, a Fox is terrorizing our chicken coop it would be against the law on our own land to shoot said fox outside of the hunting window (winter months 11/1/17-2/1/18?)

Except the last part. I thought animals harassing livestock was an exception to the season calendar? IE if a Raccoon was in to your chickens, so long as you were otherwise abiding by safety zone restrictions, it was legal to shoot said Raccoon.

If you don't live on or otherwise work or manage your father's property? Be careful here......You'll need a Maryland hunting license.

Read that, and I do work on the property... seems like it's never ending actually. Also run my business out of the property and lived there briefly.

As for the fox, we lost around 10 chickens this spring/summer.
Last one survived awhile before last week we let it roam free for the afternoon until my father watched a fox out about 100yds away out of no where grab the chicken and kill it before much could be done.
Didn't matter what the response would be here, if I was there the fox would have been taken out.
Own the land, pay our taxes and foxes are damn near everywhere (can't drive home at night without one skipping across the road) same with a random raccoon or coyote etc that would attack one of our animals. I'm not gonna run to the DNR website and verify dates
