    Maybe just me, but 4" bbl. minimum for .357 Mag. You lose a lot of velocity with a short barrel.

    Duffy's has a nice 4-inch 686 (no dash; so no internal lock) that's probably going to be sold by tomorrow morn for $550. It's mentioned in a SALE thread in their IP forum.

    What kind of 357 mag home defense ammo do guys find performs well in your revolvers?

    I have been usin 158gr fmj for target practice so far, but haven't found any HD.

    Love my 686+ 4". I see a 640 in my future.

    ....

    Get the 640Pro if you do, and add the Apex J-Frame trigger kit. Night Sights are standard, as are the moon clip cuts.

    I like the Speer Gold Dot. Their short barrel ammo has a bit less velocity, but very controllable. They also make it in 158gr .357.

    I have a about 700 rounds of 158gr JHPs in .357 I got when I bought my GP-100 a few years back. I actually made money when I sold that GP-100. I'm getting a S&W Model 66 later this year, so I'm keeping the ammo :D
